Getting a Business Tariff (Not a Business)

Options
Ok so I was wondering if anyone can get a business tariff. I mean I am not a business, I don't run a business nor do I intend to. I was wondering if there are any legal reasons why someone can't just buy a Business Tariff even though they are using it for personal use. I would be going with 02 and getting the Blackberry Bold 9700 which on a regular 02 18 month Contract would cost me £30 a month. PLus a charge of £250 for the phone. On the business Tariff I get an extra 400 mins and still keep unlimited texts but I sacrifice unlimited internet and wifi for a 500mb cap. This costs £21 a month and I get the phone free. You can see why I would lean towards the business tariff right? So any help here guys, would buying a phone on a business tariff be illegal if I am not a trading business. I mean O2 are still getting money so I don't see why not.

Years ago I got a phone on o2 through CPW. When I decided to change my tariff a couple of years later I discovered I was on a business tariff. At that time I was not a "business" so not sure how it happened but it was useful to have.

I am now a business and have a "domestic" account as it is cheaper.
  • SO if I buy a business Tariff I should be ok? Also another question but does anyone know if the 500mb cap is for WiFi too, I have heard some people say you can get charged for using WiFi which I think sounds stupid but I have never had a phone with WiFi.

I was never asked for nor have I ever supplied anything to state I was a business, neither has my OH who has a business account with o2.

I don't know of any limit for using Wi-fi although someone did post on another thread that there was a 500mb limit for using BT Openzone.

Never used it so no idea, but there is obviously no limit if using your own Wi-fi at home, subject to any limit from your ISP.

Thank you, another question lol. 500mb, not sure if that would last a month. Then again I would only be using it when I wasn't at home but has anyone had 500mb a month and managed? Also when a Tariff says Unlimited Texts, seeing as it says Unlimited texts and not Unlimited 02 - 02 texts i am assuming its for Uk texts. The only reason i ask is that even though the tariff says Unlimited Texts, for the small price of 6.50 a month I can add a bolt on giving me Unlimited Texts lol.

I think it may depend on the network. If you wanted the acc in Limited company name for exapmle you've have to supply documents to confirm the company.

I was also informed that if you were a sole trader you'd have to supply ID proves showing the trading name ? But that may just be the network I work for...

There are various guides as to how much various things use up in terms of data, a quick google will help. Streaming movies, using iplayer etc can eat into your allowance fairly quickly.

Many companies offer 500mb but with the option to purchase more.
Unlimited when used for texts tends to be "more" unlimited than in respect of data. When I was with o2 my unlimited texts was actually 30000 texts per month.

As a sole trader I use my own name so have no other trading name.

What would a person like me have to show?
  • Ah, don't think I will use 30000 a month if thats what i ended up with. I just would really like the phone and seeing as I would not only save around £10 a month plus the £250 phone fee when I bought the business plan it's hard to not try and blag my way into one. If I did get one, or if I got caught lying lol would that be fraud. I know if this was a bank account or something that would be illegal but its a phone contract. And even though it is indeed a contract. Is it illegal to lie.

Invoices in your name I guess?
It's not an area of the business I get involved with that often. I just know that if you want a business acc you have to show you run a business...
  • I wonder if selling things on Ebay would be considered a Business. I would have invoices from that.
