As you will have read, you must have BT's Unlimited Evening & Weekend calls plan or their Unlimited Anytime calls plan to 'qualify' for Line Rental Saver.
Yes thats what they say on questions about the line saver product.
But here http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/consumerProducts/displayCategory.do?categoryId=CON-HOME-PHN-R1

I was beginning to have doubts about BT's Questions and Answers on the Line Rental Saver after seeing post #12 at

and your observation only confirms my reservations.0 -

Not true. When I tried to register, I had multiple choice of plans, inclusive of 3 different unlimited weekend plans, the one I have at the moment (the base plan) is the only one that does not renew automatically after a year, the other ones renew automatically when the 12 months finishes. The next unlimited weekends plan comes with international friends and family (I think you have free international calls with it but you need to stop the call before 1 hour passed then you can call back the person again.) But you have to pay an extra 0.99p a month I think for the privilege. And the contract renew automatically after one year. I can't remember the third one. Then you have different evenings and weekends plans and then different anytime plans.
I must admit, they don't make it easy to find the information you need, it takes a while. I only saw that bit when they say my phone calls will be transfered back to them when I tried to register for line rental saver. I couldn't find it anywhere else. So, time to do the maths. Does the small saving you will be making on your monthly line rental for lending BT over £130 interest-free for 12 months added to the saving (if there is any) your CPS provider gives you on calls, make the change financially viable?
For me it would be worthwhile, as at the moment I pay a fee for not paying by direct debit, and still had paper statement coming through my letterbox every three months (until I registered online).
At the moment I pay on average £42+ every three months (add to that the increase coming in october), so even if they charge me for not making phonecalls I will save.
When the 12 months contract will end, I can then decide if I stay with BT for my line rental or if I move it to another provider.
I have a last question : if you pay in advance every time you pay your line rental, I have still got 2 months which I paid in advance. Will that be taken into consideration when I apply for line rental saver? Or will my year contract be starting after the 2 months I already paid?0 -
I am right fed up with that BT website, I tried twice more to apply for that rental line saver and there was a glitch preventing me to complete the application. Furthermore, I cannot get into my account and see my phone calls or anything, if that's the service I will have to endure in the future, I'd rather move everything with Plusnet, ok they are part of BT but at least they give a good customer service, and following my calculation Plusnet won't be more expensive than BT in the long run. Furthermore, their website is not half as glitchy as the BT website.0

At the end I have gone with paying my line rental for a year with BT and keep my weekend plan (not renewable option) and bring back my phonecalls to BT, after a year I will see whether I stay with BT for my line rental or move it to Plusnet.
Lucky I did that, I am with Plusnet for my internet connection and wanted to upgrade, but there is no straight path to upgrade from my old plusnet connect dialup lite (which I had for 8 years) to Broadband Value online, so they need to temporarily create a broadband your way account, then when this is completed I will be moved to Broadband value. It will take at least 10 days. There were quite a few teething problems along the way, mainly due to too many different peoples taking care of the case, and sometimes you've got the feeling that the left hand don't know what the right hand does, but Plusnet excellent customer service combined with the Plusnet forum help seems to make it easy and fast to correct any problems along the way. (you just need to keep an eye on things).
I wouldn't like to think what would have happened and how long it would have taken if I had wanted to move my home phone to Plusnet at the same time.
Once I am on Broadband value, it will be easier to add home phone to it in a year's time.0
