Line rental saver questions.

At the moment I have my line rental and I am on the unlimited weekend plan with BT , but I pay inTechnology (it used to be Argos) for my phone calls.
I would be interested to register for Line Rental Saver and possibly still carry on using inTechnology for my phonecalls.
I have never tried to bypass inTechnology to make a phonecall with BT before, I only wanted Line Rental but had that weekend calling plan added to it by BT without me asking for it.
If I register for Line Rental Saver, how do I go about making those 2 phonecalls a month with BT as my phonecalls goes straight to inTechnology?
Does a phonecall to a mobile phone count as a phonecall? (stupid question but like to be sure), or 1471?
I don't know much about it as I usually use my mobile phone to make phonecalls, and use DiscountDial once at the weekend to call abroad, but I pay the discountdial phonecall to inTechnology.

You would prefix the number dialed with 1280. But try it out first before committing to the Line Rental Saver. Then look at Recent Calls at your BT account a couple of days later. If the call is recorded you should be good to go.

Any mobile and numbers beginning 01, 02, 03, 0845 and 0870 are ok. !471 isn't. Do it at weekend when the calls are charged at 0p per minute.

You cannot have BT line rental without a calling plan. The (free) Unlimited Weekend Plan is the base plan.

You cannot register for Line Rental Saver unless you upgrade to at least the Unlimited Evening & Weekend Plan.

You can prefix some calls with a 1280 prefix to hop back onto BT for a few calls (rather than making chargeable calls, I recommend making weekend calls - when they're inclusive anyway - to 01, 02, 03, 0845 or 0870 numbers). Calls to 0500, 0800, 0808, 1471 and 1571 do not count.

Why aren't you using 18185 for your overseas calls? You don't start paying halfway through dialling with 18185 and don't have to pay BT's 9.9p (shortly to be 10.9p) call set-up fee.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

It's not worth it for me then. I would pay £2.99/m for nothing.
I might as well upgrade my Plusnet Broadband to include the line rental.
I didn't know about 18185. I had a check on their website and they are 0.5p/m more expensive than the one I am using now (I pay 1p/m at the moment).

Not if you are crafty! Change the Unlimited Weekend Plan to the Unlimited UK Evening and Weekend 12 month renewable contract Plan. It's here:

    http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/consumerProducts/dynamicmodules/pagecontentfooter/pageContentFooterPopup.jsp?pagecontentfooter_popupid=24641#CURROFF

No £2.99 and free evening calls. Now go for the Line Rental Saver.

But you pay a full connection charge and start paying for the call before your connected using that sort of service.

What are the benefits of using intechnology for your calls?

I had moved my phone calls from BT to vodafone at one point because then the overseas calls with BT were prohibitive.
Then vodafone sold that part of their business to someone else, then someone else, then someone else.... until they started charging me twice a month.
So I moved to Argos, who after a few years sold that part of the business to inTechnology. Then I have found discount dial who were even cheaper for overseas calls.
My average monthly bill at the moment is £ 2.00, so I suppose I felt it was cheap enough to not look into it.
At the moment I am trying decide whether I will go with BT Line Rental Saver + Plusnet Broadband or get Plusnet Broadband value 10GB + Line rental with evening and weekend calls for £17.74/m.
At the moment Plusnet don't know how the BT increase in October will translate with their packages.

As Plusnet are part of the BT Group I'd say its a safe bet that their charges will rise in line with BT Retail !!!

I tried to to register for Line Rental Saver (will have to do it again, the transaction wasn't completed).
At what point of the registration, it stated that by applying for Line Rental Saver, I did agree to bring back my phonecalls to BT.
Does that mean that they will automatically move my phonecalls billing to BT automatically? What will happen to inTechnology? I have a direct debit with them.

Yes. By opting for Line Rental Saver, you also agree to return your calls to BT - so your current arrangement with your CPS calls provider will be cancelled.

As you will have read, you must have BT's Unlimited Evening & Weekend calls plan or their Unlimited Anytime calls plan to 'qualify' for Line Rental Saver.

So, time to do the maths. Does the small saving you will be making on your monthly line rental for lending BT over £130 interest-free for 12 months added to the saving (if there is any) your CPS provider gives you on calls, make the change financially viable? Personally, I doubt it but please get the calculator and the past year's itemised bills out to check for yourself before deciding.

    Yes.

Unless there is an Indirect Access code to make calls through inTechnology it will be inaccessible. Have you a link to the service you have with them?

You could try setting up the Line Rental Saver via the phone. If you get a similar response to the web one phone again. Being whimsical, BT CS are likely to have a support person who will tell you what you want to hear. Just make a note of the reference number.
