The pitfall is that you will be giving BT an interest-free loan for 12months whereas, normally, you would only have to loan them £11.54 (£12.04) for one month (assuming you're on Monthly Whole Bill Direct Debit).Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

Is there a discount for paying for a year?
This is something I always do if I can, if there's a discount.
Nothing would ever persuade me to use BT again, but it would be good if the annual option catches on with other providers, with some discount for paying up front.0 -

As it is,12 months at £11.54 would cost £138.48.
From October it will be £12.04 per month = £144.48
"line rental from £9.49
There are two ways to pay your BT landline rental. During your order, you can choose either:- £11.54 every month (with paper-free billing and Direct Debit)
- £9.49 a month equivalent, when you pay 12 months in one advance card payment of £113.88 (Line Rental Saver)"
.Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -

IDNet do 12 months for the price of 11, and still have a 30 day contract, I have just paid mine, of course that also avoids the impending VAT increase until at least next June.;)0 -

If you pay for a year up front ( either with a discount with BT or 12 month for the price of 11 with IDNET) the 30 day notice is pointless, as they wont give you any money back if you switch to someone else0 -

Of course they will, they will refund x times the months unused.
IDNet is a very different company to BT, they are very fair and honest, I have had my BB with them for almost 4 years.0 -

Smaller companies are like that. When BT ceased our line after we dared dispute the bill (the last time we ever had BT, and the last time we will ever have them), Zen Internet - the ADSL supplier - contacted me to notify me of the cease pending.
I told them there was nothing we could do, as resolving even simple, straightforward issues with BT monkeys isn't really possible, and they then refunded the unused portion of the month's ADSL back to my bank account without prompting. We never got the couple of quid BT owed us, but that's a small price to pay for getting rid.
Then we got a 3G modem and noticed how much quicker it was than the ADSL anyway, so no need for a phone line. Bye BT, we still miss you so.0 -
The main drawback is that you have to make 2 calls a month through BT if you pay a year up front. You need to make sure Primus allow you to use the 1280 prefix to route a call to BT. Otherwise you would be charged extra each month. You also have to view your bills online, there is no other option.0

You cant have Line Rental Saver on the BT Weekend Plan unless you have BT Broadband.
"Who can get Line Rental Saver?
You qualify for Line Rental Saver if you have paper-free billing and one of the following products:- Unlimited Anytime Plan
- Unlimited Evening and Weekend Plan
- Any package of products, such as phone and broadband "
