    Update: called BT this weekend.
I had to call three times because yesterday morning "the computer system was down" so my cancellation for Line Rental Saver could not be processed and in the afternoon the system was still down. They did confirm thought that I would be able to cancel the whole thing before the 12th of August though.

Today they told me that Line Rental Saver was non-refundable and there was no cooling off period either as it took immediate effect when I ordered it six days ago. However, the call transfer back to BT could be cancelled on my request. I was warned though that not doing two calls a month would incur a £1.50 charge every month (which I already knew) and that my calls provider might block access to the 1280 prefix (which I doubt).

I have been doing my two BT calls a month via the prefix anyways to keep my caller display free of charge.
When you say 2 calls can these calls be your free call on your weekend package or do they have to be chargable calls

The exact wording is usually "chargeable or inclusive" calls.

Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

I have just had a call from my electricity/gas provider saying that they can offer line rental for less than BT even though my calls package is routed through Sky.

How can this be or am I missing something?

As BT is the only provider which allows CPS calls providers on its lines, I find that very unikely.

Probably a poorly trained cold caller.

P.S. A cold caller before 7.14am would have a burning ear had they phoned me!

You cant have Line Rental Saver on the BT Weekend Plan unless you have BT Broadband.

"Who can get Line Rental Saver?

You qualify for Line Rental Saver if you have paper-free billing and one of the following products:
    • Unlimited Anytime Plan
    • Unlimited Evening and Weekend Plan
    • Any package of products, such as phone and broadband "

I am on Weekend Plan and I have received the offer by mail to pay a year in advance. Surely at the price quoted, £113.88, that would just be for the Weekend plan ? If it was one of the better plans, it would be more of a bargain ?

Seems to make it clear there are no refunds what-so-ever.

I suspect it would be best to wait till the beginning of October to pay a year in advance, once the price goes up ?

What will happen to the money I will already have paid for a months advance rental ?

"If you currently get a discount for paper-free billing, this will stop".

Is one of the terms of the Line Rental saver. By this do we assume what they mean is that the annual charge is what it is and that's for paper free billing. And at the end of 12 months you go back to standard line rental and the paper free billing discount will come back.

    - Or -

Do they mean "your paper-free billing will stop" and BT will not reinstate it. So while you might be saving this year haha - in 12 months time we'll get £1.50 a month back because you signed away your rights to the paper free billing incentive.

The detail is always in the smallprint!

I have just taken up this offer and i have evening and weekend plan and have kept that. If you take it up now; and you have to take up the offer by a certain date then you will avoid the price increase from BT and the VAT increase in January!! I worked it out that it's still cheaper paying for 12 months up front than it will be for 12 x paper free billing months cost

It appears that BT are charging the same annual cost for weekend plan or evening and weekend plan ?

Well, this poster had already written that it's possible to use the 1280 prefix:

But it'd be nice to make them aware of section 8.9 in that thread.

That's interesting, just looked on thier website and your right but in all my years I have not had any problems with using the code. Don't providers reserve the right to do most things these days?

On another note I just noticed talktalk are putting thier line rental prices up to match BT - its mentioned on the hive home page but they say they wont be putting thiers up so I am trying to get my parents to switch to hive but still in contract for line rental with BT. Do you know if you can come out of contract without penalty cos they are making a change to the prices?
