Giving Way at Roundabouts?

As a 90% pedestrian I find unnecessary giving-way a complete pain.
A lot of the time you wait to cross, eye up say 1 car going then a gap. Then that 1 car stops to allow you to cross... This always takes longer than waiting for them to pass - you've slowed both of us up?!
The best way to drive is to drive predictably so others know what you're doing.
Oh and try not to run over pedestrians we don't like it
I've had the exact opposite happen to me on foot just last month, I went to cross a junction between two queued cars and the second car tooted his horn revved his engine and drove forward leaving no gap to walk through...... I went around to cross behind him and lifted his wiper off the rear window as I passed“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

The thing that irritates me at roundabouts - is motorists who can't be bothered to put their indicator on!
That is, you arrive at the roundabout, want to go straight-on or right around, but have to stop because there's another car at the right - who has priority.
Then what happens he/she turns left! So you didn't need to wait after all, if 'left indicated' - you have known it was safe to move off straight away!I used to work for Tesco - now retired - speciality Clubcard0 -

Not so round here. I never trust the left indicator until I see the car turning. On my nearest roundabout I regularly see people indicating left all the way round until they eventually take the third (and final) exit!0 -
I was over in Yorkshire a few weeks ago on the A64 from Leeds - York and I was following a black Saab 93 Aero and at a roundabout they indicted left. So one assumes they are taking the first exit, so I nipped in the right hand lane so I could get past them and carry on up the A64... Wrong, they too wanted the same exit as me.
Next roundabout they did exactly the same - approached the roundabout in the left lane, indicated left and went straight on. This happened at every roundabout. So god knows what they were playing at!0 -
I understand what your saying, but in this case the driver in front of me had a clear road ahead. I really think they thought they were doing these other drivers a favour by letting them go.
Some people think they are being courteous to other road users by giving way to other mororists that don't have right of way, this is very misguided and dangerous. I was driving in Oxford yesterday and a driver coming the oppisite direction flashed a car out of a side road into my carridgeway , the driver he let out did not have a clear view of what was coming the other way and because of a badly parked van and I did not see him untill he was coming out, luckily I was just under the 30mph limit, however I had to brake hard which resulted in me nearly being rear ended by a 7.5ton truck. These people are a menace, they are a danger to cyclists and motor cyclists not to mention the rear end shunts their so called courteous actions cause. The Highway code is very clear on the rules of right of way, if it's your right of way then you don't give way to those who don't have right of way, simples.I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0 -

I would of walked over his bonnet.0 -
The worst is people who get confused about where they're going, and jam the brakes on in the middle of the roundabout- had this happen a few times..0

Absolutely, two people I know (both women, but blokes can be just as bad) have written cars off as they didn't check the oil level, and when the oil pressure light came on, they didn't what it was and kept driving - seizing the engines. Another girl locally had a puncture on a main road late at night, didn't know how to change a wheel and so started walking and got run over and seriously injured.
It may be boring knowing what the mechanical bits are on a car, but a little bit of knowledge can save money, or even your life.
i bet theres alot of drivers around who wouldnt know what half the lights mean on the dashboard r how to top up the screen wash0 -
Doesn't the highway code say some thing like never stop on a roundabout ? There's plenty of morons driving around though, so it is to expected.
Compulsory retesting ever 5 years, until 65, then testing every month :rotfl:
Id go further and make everyone who has a license issued in right hand drive countries take a UK test, (1) to teach them what the road markings are for etc (2) to prevent deaths caused by people driving on the wrong side of the road thinking they are back in the country of originAnd yes the lady in the avatar is me

Multilane roundabouts are bad news. If the road to your right is busy with 2 lanes of traffic entering the roundabout in a constant stream (usually at high speed), you can wait for an eternity. I know traffic lights on roundabouts are not popular but at peak times they make sense.0
