Was the driver in front able to exit the roundabout without overhanging the entry? If not, then he was acting correctly. Too many braindead morons bring the entire road network to a halt by blocking the entrance prior to their exit when the exit is blocked.

I understand what your saying, but in this case the driver in front of me had a clear road ahead. I really think they thought they were doing these other drivers a favour by letting them go.

I have had this conversation a few times usually with drunken blokes in the pub spouting off about why women shouldn't drive (btw, I am assuming you're female unless you confirm otherwise). Their argument is unless we can strip an engine etc we shouldn't be allowed behind the wheel  I point to their pints and their bellies and ask if they can explain how their body metabolises the alcohol and if they're able to replace their liver if it packs in ;)

We all use things we don't fully understand but there are few more valuable than our own bodies. Luckily there are qualified doctors to fix things when they go wrong. And when my car needs work I'll take it to a qualified mechanic who I trust and know will do a good job. I'll do the checks and if anything turns up dodgy I'll go see the person who's qualified to fix it. After all he/she's the one trained to do it.

    I am female..... :)

Not saying you need to be a qualified mech to drive, or a pilot to fly with Easyjet, but knowing the basics is handy!

Absolutely, two people I know (both women, but blokes can be just as bad) have written cars off as they didn't check the oil level, and when the oil pressure light came on, they didn't what it was and kept driving - seizing the engines. Another girl locally had a puncture on a main road late at night, didn't know how to change a wheel and so started walking and got run over and seriously injured.

It may be boring knowing what the mechanical bits are on a car, but a little bit of knowledge can save money, or even your life.

If you are at a busy roundabout and your exit is blocked by queing traffic then it's courtesy to stop short and allow people to enter the roundabout, especially if they are not taking the same exit as you. If that is not the case then you should not stop!

I've seen more cars destroyed by the simple things- not checking levels, air in tyres etc.... the reason my stepdaughter will not be driving until she knows the basics...

Oh I agree with you about knowing the basics but I don't include stripping the engine in that list. It's common sense to know how to check tyre pressures, oil levels, change a wheel etc but sadly many don't.

btw, your stepdaughter is lucky she has someone willing and knowledgeable to take the time to teach her. I got shown how to check the oil levels by my dad and the rest I figured out for myself.

    Refreshing to hear!

Normally it's "I am female, therefore I don't need to know anything, I can just act stupid and let a man do it for me" and then in the same breathe ranting on about equal pay!!

Women can do almost everything and anything a man can do, but too many choose not to because it's too easy to get someone else to do it.
It gets worse with every generation too, can't cook or keep a house because that's sexist and degrading, can't do anything else because it's a "mans job".
My mum used to check her car every day, all the levels, the tyre's, etc etc.

How did this thread go from roundabout to women drivers? :(

    Sorry, that's probably my fault!

Glitzkiss- maybe stripping engine a bit much for some, that's just what I was taught.... Didn't mean to sound like all should (there's plenty I know should never be let under a bonnet!). I'n not a mech, just hopefully know more than some, mainly from messing around on cars.... There's sadly plenty I don't know....

Strider- thanks! Though I can't cook. Last nights was pork with brown sauce and chilli powder- best described as an experience.... :)

    As a 90% pedestrian I find unnecessary giving-way a complete pain.

A lot of the time you wait to cross, eye up say 1 car going then a gap. Then that 1 car stops to allow you to cross... This always takes longer than waiting for them to pass - you've slowed both of us up?!

The best way to drive is to drive predictably so others know what you're doing.

Oh and try not to run over pedestrians we don't like it :)
