I don't think men in the forces would admit to one another that they look forward to receiving the mail and what it means to them. IMO they were just playing it down and pretending it's just to get the photos.
My OH's in the army and can't say I wholly agree with that. Of course they love receiving mail and it's no secret that it's a huge morale boost, but some (not all) just want penpals so they can receive piccies to go on their lovely entitled 'Pig Board' - doesn't just happen when they're on tour either.
Anyway, hope that doesn't put anyone off writing as there's lots of people who have no one writing to them & a letter will brighten someones day no end.0 -

lol - I refrained from using the expression 'pig board' but that's exactly what my other half said it was called :rotfl: nice to know the army hasn't changed!!!
Personally if I was planning on writing letters I'ld just be wary of anyone that wrote back asking for a photo...0 -

Ive Pm'ed you
Now this may sound like a silly question but how do I write the first letter? Ive never had a pen pal before and dont really know what to say
Is there anywhere I can write using snail mail?
If it is snail mail you want to do, then if you know who you are writing to, go to your local Post Office and asked for some Forces Airograms. They are FREE!!! And if you are writing to an operational area ie Op TELIC (Iraq), Op HERRICK (Afgan), then as long as you use the correct BFPO number it is free to post!
Mail = Good for Moral.0 -
Royal Mail have diched the charges to send parcels to the troops out in Iraq and Afgan! About time!
So those of you that have pen pals out there, send them some home comforts! As long as each package is no more than 2Kg, it is free (about the size of a shoe box).
Ideal things that will come in handy are Wet Ones, disposable razers, sweets (not chocolate, as this will melt before getting to the Squaddie! Not nice, I am talking from experience!), Non airosol toiletries.
Go on chear up a Squaddie today!0
