Cheering up a worn pram

Can anyone help ? I have bought a second hand pram with drop and back support so it becomes a pushchair, for when DD goes back to work, we will be part time child minding our DGG. It is a Mr M&P, chasis etc great, but all fabric is dated design and faded. Only £15. Everything comes off including hood for washing which I have done. I want to use existing covers as a basis to recover, to smarten up the pushchair and make it a bit more up to date. Thought of navy on outside, and a blue and white check/spot or stripe for inside. Could do a footmuff for winter. There is a plastic raincover.
Has anyone done this before? Are there any pitfalls I need to look out for ?
Hope this is the right place for this. Seems to fit with thrift. Please tell me if not.
Thanks for reading.

A friend of mine did this with her pram. One of pitfalls found was keeping the straight. As apparently the padding on the inside can be quite hard the needle to get through. But she persevered and it looks amazing. You never would thought it was second hand.
Good luck with the pram!!0 -
That is encouraging, but I will think carefully about the thickness of combined new and old fabric, and see what the sewing machine will do. I don't feel so daft now I know someone has done it before. I just want something that looks nice for our special girl. She is a baby we never thought would be possible, and we would have bought a posh one if we were well off. Seems a waste tho if I can make this one look good.x0

Hoods are tricky tbh. but a large liner that loops around the back of seat can completly cover seat fabric.
Is it like a tarten check, navy chassis and white wheels.
When i buy used prams it gets scrubbed.
chassis gets scrubbed and polished.
badly scratched chassis you can spraypaint.
Have used car back to black on wheels before.
washed and febreezed fabrics.
Never tried making completly new colours.
Any idea what model it is as some like pliko/p3 covers fit older chassis.pad by xmas2010 £14,636.65/£20,000::beer:

It is part of a travel system with the MPX chassis, but not the newest design. The body can be flat with the end level to use like a pram, or drop the end and prop up the back to make a pushchair. It is like a burberry check. It folds flat, but is wide even when folded. Does not go narrow like the pramette. I have washed everything, scrubbed the chassis etc. The shopping basket is scruffy, but rest of frame etc is great. Hood has faded in sun, and it looks a bit dated to be honest. Good thing is the car seat they have fits the frame so it will be nice and easy for us till she gets bigger.0

Have you considered Dylon?
I ran faded pushchair covers through the washing machine with a dark dye, thinking that it was worth a shot as they were ruined anyway.
They came up like new. Likewise for sun-bleached car seat covers.
Honestly, I'd try that first!import this0 -
mmm depending how old it is you can still get parts on ebay just search prams and pushchairs, mamas and papas then pram parts.
If its a beige check with silver chasis its more recent. The newer fabrics could maybe go onto seat unit
The most current is mamas and papas ultima on mpx or excel chassis. The older models were called sportline with g matic fittings.
A newish mamas and papas carseta would not fit the very old gmatic fitting chassis called argento so chances are although fabrics does seems dated its 2004/2005 as my daughter was born 2006.
Does it have white wheels or black.
occasionally baskets come up so do look easy to fit.
The fact you say its fabric means more modern old ones metal.
On plain black prams have used fabric paint stray before to revive it.
Its a lovley pram my mate has it in cityscape whiich is like black denim. If babys tiny and it is newish version the ultima carrycots huge and lovley turns it into proper pram.
You can buy carrycots of ebay soemtimes with hood.pad by xmas2010 £14,636.65/£20,000::beer:

I think the wheels are a light grey plastic - can't look as in DD garage. The frame is black. The tyres are black. The shopping basket is a nylon mesh, with the bottom part looks like strips of rubber. Very tatty and needs to go. Might be able to get a metal mesh basket to fit ?
As for dying, I really never thought of that. When I think about it though, the whole thing has obviously been washed several times and I don't like the checks. SIL hates it. He has called it some rude names ! Only in jest, but I take his point. Totally in love with his baby and wants the best for her, naturally, as they will not be able to have any more. It is his one time of being a dad and he want everything right. To be honest, so do I. Just a bit short on funds.0 -
Do you have a picture? or a link to a similar pram
Might be easier to see it then help suggest things to do.0 -
Not got a photo. Could get one but not today I'm afraid. Sorry if I am being hard to help. Chassis defintely says MPX. Brand new car seat fits. Cover is a dark beige with marroon checks, with a dark grey denim trim.0

Thanks everyone for taking the trouble to try to help me. I feel lots more positive about it now. Found some thick blue and white striped cotton in my stash, and a couple of large pieces of good quality navy blue. Need to wash and dry it first to pre shrink it. Could get some fleece to line the cozy toes, but won,t need them yet, I hope ! Will go and look at some web sites. Might be able to get a basket that fits.0
