Pity a lot of people didn't think the same of benidorm, it is a massive resort, and has lots of wonderful things to offer people, and yes it has it's 18-30's area, but you can visit Benidorm, and not see this, it's not all

Lots of people do love Benidorm thats where my original "debate" came from.... sooooooo many people go there so it musn't be ALL bad.

Benidorm is held to be a planning mistake even by the Spanish, which is why the lower rise resorts strated to appear. There may be nice(er) areas of the town, but they are overshadowed by the concrete monstrosities which abound on every corner. The same cannot be said of Zante.

Mistake some say it may have been, but each summer the population rises from 65,000 to over a whopping one and a half million, the resort has 3 beaches all of which have each been awarded a blue flag, benidorm has lots for tourists, casco antiguo -Terra Mitica, the theme park -, the animal park Terra Natura, -Mundomar Park, and - Aqualandia Water Park along with numerous golf courses.

Maybe some people don't want to visit Zante because of the, lack of evening entertainment, a resort that you are harassed and bitten by mosquitos, then there is the poor unlit roads, if you can call them that, the fact that tourists and locals fly around these paths at a mad speed on motorbikes that look well, not roadworthy, plus some hotels recommend taking a torch with you to make your way home, then there is the regularly electricity going out, along with the fact you have to shower between certain hours, or there is no hot water.

So when you look at it like that, then there are some people who Zante wouldn't agree with.

The problem with this thread is that, people came on here and slated the people who went to benidorm, and people who also couldn't accept the fact that some people do like benidorm, and some people don't like greek islands.

Looking forward to my 12 days in turkey then my 5 nights in benidorm.

And remember it's each to there own,

The population rises with a certain type of holidaymaker....perhaps not the most discerning, but still, as you say, each to their own.

Those negatives you ascribe to Zante, are actually positives to some, those who consider the road less travelled as the better road, the authentic, as opposed to the manufactured.

I totally agree, the point i was trying to get across is the fact that there are aspects of greece that do not appeal to certain people. As there are areas of benidorm that do not appeal to some people.

but what i didn't like about this thread, was the fact that some people were beginning to sterotype the people who visit benidorm, and was pointing out that they are chavs

To be fair, and from actually visiting there, there are very many who do fit the stereotype, as they say there is no smoke without fire. If you want Blackpool with guaranteed sun, then Benidorm is probably tailor made for you, if you want to experience the culture of the country you visit on holiday then you need to think again.

so on corfu where would i visit to experience the culture of the country?, because dassia was a resort, which had, karaoke, quiz nights, english food, english beers, and even english tv advertised,

a day visit to ipsos nextdoor also showed me that this resort was the same, then a coach ride up to kassioppi (sp) showed me that this resort was the same.

A day out in corfu town, and a few hours of shopping showed me, that this town has also geared it'self up to the english tourist, and selling the plastic tat that some of the shops in benidorm sells.

And all of this is because the english spend money so the resorts be it in spain, turkey, cyprus, greece or portugal, gear themselves to the british tourist.

And because Benidorm has over 1 million visitors each year, these people who fit the 'sterotype' stand out more, but believe me they are still there in greece, i witnessed them in the above mentioned resorts.

But i wouldn't call them scruffy or chavs.

I wish I had written the above!

I holiday four-five times a year. One week in a wonderful part of Majorca, so peaceful and hardly anyone speaks English. Then one week on the Costa de la Luz, once again the total opposite to Benidorm. One week in Ireland, in Kerry or Mayo. Nothing to do but watch the waves crash onto the beach. There I don't buy a newspaper for a week. No TV but I enjoy the radio and visits to local bars for conversation.

Then I enjoy, yes realy do enjoy, a week in sunny Benidorm. Lovely walks, a quiet beach only 5 minutes drive from all the crowds. Then some super entertainment in the evening.

    Benidorm/Zante, something different for everyone.

All very different but all so enjoyable! What is the old saying, 'One mans meat is another mans poison'.
