Benidorm - good/bad debate??

Options
Found a bargain holiday to Benidorm in August this year but not sure whether its a place for me or not!! Other half has been and said its great but that was a few years back with his mates.

Does anyone have any good/bad comments - and be as honest as you can!!

Thank you

    Ghastly place.

There are plenty of nice beach resorts along the coast. Benidorm may be OK for a day trip so you can say you have been, gawp at the tackiness of the place - and then leave.

It amazes me that so many people fly into Alicante, get on a bus and drive straight past the city. Alicante is a great little city - good beach, lots to see and a fantastic nightlife - while still having a Spanish feel unspoiled by tourism.

Benidorm is a Marmite resort, you love it, or hate it.

    I hate it.;)

We got back from there last week.

I'm 34, OH is 29, son is 14, daughter is 12 and baby is 14 months.

If it wasn't for the gorgeous 4* hotel we stayed in (out of the way of the strip) which was 2 minutes away from Aqualandia and Mundomar, I think we would have come home after 2 days.

I thought it was a horrible, tired and skanky looking place ~ and I agree with anyone who says it is like Blackpool with sun. I don't see what the fuss is to be honest.

When we did venture down by the beach, I couldn't tell if buildings were hotels or tower blocks.

I'm no snob, far from it, but I would never go back there, not even just me and OH who normally don't mind stuff like that!

I went earlier this month - after a conference in Madrid, we thought it would be interesting in an ironic way. Well, we were wrong, very wrong.

The troubles began when, on going to our apartment, 'Agadoo' was blasting out from some speakers. Levante beach is populated by tracksuit-wearing-50-inch-plasma-tv-owners-tattooed-IQ-of-a-chair-spray-tanned-chain-smoking-strongbow-drinking chavs. It's dreadfully run down, full of dodgy souvenir shops, people-who-inhale-whole-chocolate-eclairs-using-mobility-scooters-because-going-up-three-steps-will-cause-a-heart attack. Think I'm exaggerating? Here is photographic proof:

Well we were told it was fantastic for kids and there was loads to do, but apart from the waterpark and Mundomar, there was sod all else to do.

The beach was there of course, but it was heaving, and listening to women screeching at their kids and seeing kids being slapped with flip flops, it just turned me off and we headed back to the hotel.

I have been a few times and liked it. Once was with Oh and 2nd time as a family. Both times we stayed in decent hotels which I think makes a difference.

All depends what you want from a holiday. As a couple we could lie by pool go to terra mitica, out at night and it suited us. As a family we did aqualandia, mundomar and stayed in the hotel of an evening because we felt the LO was too little.

I suspect I may of stayed in the same hotel at shellsuit judging on her description of location.

We stayed in the Mediterraneo, right opposite the Benidorm Palace.

It's a low rise hotel which is unusual for Benidorm!

10 floors would be low rise in Benidorm.;)
