AFAIK you don't have to top-up the free sim you have, you will have to register it and then in the same phone call (or you may be able to do it online) you give them the PAC code Orange gave you.

This way when you have used your PAC your contract will be cancelled and your number will be transferred to your free sim.

    Ah. I see.

When was this and where did you get the two contracts from?

You may have had a contract through a re-seller and got a new contract with Vodafone direct or the otherway around.

Yeah the first was with dial a phone then second through vodafone website. They were both proper vodafone contracts though, plus this is never mentioned when people deny its possible and i'm sure a lot of people do this.
