Hi,
Do we now have to use the new sort code on A&L accounts when we set up DD's etc?

no one has told me about this. my account is online, i seem to recall some message a week or so ago saying 'your account has migrated' i had no idea what this meant and it didnt lead me to anything about any changes?? is this for everyone? mines a current account0
-
They are changing them area by area. Not all at the same time.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0

ok, i have just been in to have a look. i see what you mean, next to the account number under the name of the account is a 6 digit code.
now my problem with this is that unless i had read this thread, which was quite by chance as i dont normaly use this board, i would just have assumed it was some sort of admin code or wouldnt have even looked at it at all, its just numbers to me.
i then read the 'unread messages'. it had one 'welcome to santander'. no where in that email message does it mention about new sort codes. in fact it specifically has a section in it which says 'what do i need to do now' and the answer is nothing0 -

The "old" sort code works perfectly well. I am continuing to use it where I already have the account as one of my payees set up on other accounts. So inaction is OK in that respect.0 -

Having seen migration from the other side of the coin (yes I work for a bank!) the old sort codes will remain active for a reasonable length of time. However, they will eventually get "switched off" for want of a better phrase so it is probably a good idea to ensure that any standing orders / payee arrangements you have set up to go into your previously A&L now Santander account are amended to the new sort code details. There is no guarantee we will be notified of the sort code being turned off (and there is nothing more frustrating and time consuming than trying to locate a missing payment.
Mine and OHs A&L accounts have recently migrated to santander and we will be notifying my work, his pension company etc etc of the new sort codes. We'll also be touching base with all of the companies who have DDs coming out of our A&L accounts to make sure they have been notified of the new sort code.
I know we shouldn't have to check these things, but, I will do for peace of mind (having seen the pain when things go wrong from the other side of the fence!)

i tell you one thing though. i have a couple of a+l savinga ccounts linked up to the current account. i usually have payments put in once a month, one is for the car and another is for other stuff. i notice that usually when the money transfers, it is immediately available, however, now i notice that its not instantly available and yet it is transferring from the same bank! a deterioration in service already.0

Actually, A&L previously had a service where A&L transfers could take up to a day. All Santander to Santander transfers are immediate, so you'll notice an improvement in the service once migrated.0
