Software As Good as "Roboform"?

Just for info you can create seemingly complicated passwords from the vast amount of useless cr4p in your head for example the nursery rhyme:
Little Miss Muffet sat on her tuffet
Eating her curds and whey,
Along came a spider,
Who sat down beside her
And frightened Miss Muffet away
Take the first letter of each word gives you a 26 random letter password you'll never forget: lmmsohtehcawacaswsdbhafmma
You can then make every second or third letter a capital even harder. If you want harder simply use the first letter of each syllable: ltmmfsohtfethcawalcasdwsdbshaftmmfaw
Not hard enough count the syllables as well: l1tmm2fsoht3fe4thcawa5lcas6dwsdb7shaf8tmm9fa10w
Simple rhyme you'll never forget brilliant passwords.
Brilliant! But how do you remember which combination and quantity of of letters you have allocated to which site - I have over 50 sites I use, some regularly some a couple of times a year.
And some sites will accept only a limited number of characters per password - how do you remember which way you truncated your formula to make it fit.
I still think it's not the sites that are forgetting your password, it's probably your multiple attempts to get the right password for the right site. And I certainly wouldn't attempt to type a password of 26 characters without using something like the Firefox Unhide Password add-on.
Getting getting back on topic (although by now I am sure the OP has lost interest completely) everything you have explained so far is making a very good case for using a password manager - any password manager!
I just happen to use LastPass, find it simple and easy to use and I don't have to remember anything apart from my LastPass password. It even generates random passwords so I don't have think about those either.0 -

I write down reminders like say for this forum if it was the password above I would write the title of the rhyme and a clue as to which letters etc. Its rather easy once you get used to it.And some sites will accept only a limited number of characters per password - how do you remember which way you truncated your formula to make it fit.

I did say I was joking in my original post.Getting getting back on topic (although by now I am sure the OP has lost interest completely) everything you have explained so far is making a very good case for using a password manager - any password manager!

Each to their own. If I was to use one it would be Keepass since its opensource software which to my mind makes it more trustworthy.0 -
The last full version of Roboform that was still Freeware is at http://www.oldversion.com/download_RoboForm_4.6.8.html -unlimited passwords.
(I checked and it is exactly the same number of bytes in size as the one I downloaded years ago)
...seems to work OK with IE7 but with IE8, who knows? Anyone with feedback pls post here too!0 -
Addendum: Upgraded a computer to IE8 recently and Roboform 4.6.8 - free with unlimited passwords - is working nicely with it.0

1password - for Apple only? Also, looks like it is one of those that wants to keep your passwords online somewhere - not an option I like personally. What did you pay for 1password anyway viv? it appears to be a paid for app, or is the shareware version of some use?0
