Software As Good as "Roboform"?

I see that it also stores a local copy of your passwords on your PC. Can it be configured to only do that, and not store a remote copy?
Sorry I have no idea but worth asking LastPass perhaps?
With regard to passwords being stored on third party servers, again I have no technical competence in this area but the following from the LastPass website may give some reassurance:
"What encryption is being used?AES utilizing 256-bit keys.AES-256 is accepted by the US Government for protecting TOP SECRET data. AES is implemented in JavaScript for the LastPass.com website, and in C++ for speed in the Internet Explorer and Firefox plug-ins. This is important because your sensitive data is always encrypted and decrypted locally on your computer before being synchronized. Your master password never leaves your computer and your key never leaves your computer. No one at LastPass (or anywhere else) can decrypt your data without you giving up your password (we will never ask you for it). Your key is created by taking a SHA-256 hash of your password. When you login, we make a hash of your username concatenated with your password, and that hash is what's sent to verify if you can download your encrypted data"
All I can say is it works for me and is extremely user friendly. By way of independent reviews PC Magazine has awarded it their Editors' Choice for password management and with over 450 reviews on the Firefox add-ons web site LastPass has earned an average rating of 4 out of 5 stars.0 -
I have the best, portable, free, no restrictions, password keeper ever! My memory!
Occasionally the websites (this one included) forget the passwords but I dont bother about that as theres always the forgotten password link, you'd think these websites would remember passwords but its good customer services that they know they cant so provide a way around when they misplace them.0 -
The websites I visit have forgotten double that!0

With your "method"you might have the same (dictionary based) password for some websites. This is an absolute no no, at least for me. And passwords sent to you in an unencrypted email doesn't seem to be safe neither.
And how about PIN's and TAN's?
I use KeePass all the time and I create a random password for each login I need. And I have a few hundreds of them. And they're always with me on my Android.0 -
I've never forgotten any passwords, the websites do, you'd think they would have some reliable software to remember them but they dont!
It's never happened to me in 14 years on the web but let's assume that the 540 websites you say fail to remember your password equate to 20% of all websites with whom you are registered. That means you need a password for 2700 sites - and you can remember them all?
If you are relying on memory and 540 sites are rejecting your passwords could it be that your memory is not quite as good as you believe. Sounds like a good case for a password manager - or one easily remembered password for all your sites ( not recommended).0 -
We're getting slightly of topic here but are you saying that you can remember a minimum of 540 passwords but that 540 websites can't?

Technically it could be one website that I've needed 540 passwords for. Either way my original post was a joke as the OP had been adequately answered.
I personally don't use password managers I have various passwords that I do remember none of which a dictionary based probably about 50 odd. I might be no good at spelling but I can remember random numbers and letters rather quickly for some reason.
For forums like these they are simple for things like banking not so much. I'm not registered on that many websites as I dont like random sites having my email address.0 -
Just for info you can create seemingly complicated passwords from the vast amount of useless cr4p in your head for example the nursery rhyme:
Little Miss Muffet sat on her tuffet
Eating her curds and whey,
Along came a spider,
Who sat down beside her
And frightened Miss Muffet away
Take the first letter of each word gives you a 26 random letter password you'll never forget: lmmsohtehcawacaswsdbhafmma
You can then make every second or third letter a capital even harder. If you want harder simply use the first letter of each syllable: ltmmfsohtfethcawalcasdwsdbshaftmmfaw
Not hard enough count the syllables as well: l1tmm2fsoht3fe4thcawa5lcas6dwsdb7shaf8tmm9fa10w
Simple rhyme you'll never forget brilliant passwords.0
