  • well I seem to be using lots more than anyone else but I dont really know how. There are 2 of us and have been for a few months. Shower daily bath twice a week or so washer on twice a week and toilet useage. Cant be that excessive surely. I am going to have a look at my bills to see if useage has been estimated. My metere is on the pavement and I went to have a look at it the other day. Took me ages just to open the thing and when I did I wasnt any the wiser. there was an ants nest in it and after I sorted that out I could see the meter but couldnt read it. It has a glass dial on the top and the glass seems to be scratched or distorted somehow so wasnt easy to read. Will have a go with a torch to see if that makes it any easier but apart from being estimated and somehow having a leak I dont know about my water use does appear to be higher than average. will get investigating!

I have to admit I'm ever so slightly obsessed about water usage, partly environmental but partly cost, I currently pay £11 per month (£121 pa), meter last read in January but recently calculated I've only used £25 of water including sewage charges since then!

I use the shower at the gym nearly every day so probably average two (small) baths and about three showers a week, Iturn the shower off whilst soaping myself, washing hair, I reuse the bath water to water garden and flush the toilet, I'm at work all day and because its only me in the house only flush when its necessary (sounds gross doesn't it!), I maybe do an average of two washes a week, and use water that runs cold from tap for kettle etc. I also have a hippo thing in my toilet to use less water.

  • Mrs Baggins, its well worth using a decent torch, and also check its the right meter you are reading (the number should be on your bill and match the one on the meter).
I found a hefty screwdriver was the only way to lift the lid and it was still hard! And I think you are very brave sorting the ants nest out!
  • Its got to be the right one as its outside my house and everyone seems to have one. Forgot to do it last night but will make an effort to remember later!Your right though it was really hard to lift even with a hefty old screwdriver!

According to Wessex Water for my flat with 2 people our bill should be around £22 a month.
According to my meter readings i should be well in credit though!
