What we did, was additional jobs.
I work with a lot of second job types in my supermarket job. Not only those on minimum wage, but in 'career' 'graduate' jobs but trying to pay off car loans, student debt, get on the housing ladder etc.
Cheaper accommodation. For a year I worked for a university accommodation office as a housing warden, was free accommodation including bills and internet. (I'm not suggesting something as extreme as this however, what about lodging, house share, cheaper studio flat etc.)
I had a quick google and there's 2 bed houses at £325. House shares including bills from £55 a week in Manchester (I appreciate that these will be unsuitable and studenty but gives you an idea.)
Short term pain for longer term gain. (I really wish we had got lodgers in before the children, could have had an additional £300 a month - didn't think about it then and now don't have a spare bedroom but it's something I would consider if we were in a suitable property.
Thanks for all the suggestions Sarah, all are worth bearing in mind..
Work wise, it will all depend how the redundancy situation works out, and then I can take decision from then on..Froggy's New Lillypad FundTotal so far: £ 10,009.770 -

Its going to be tough, but I think you will do it.
I suppose, until you move into your new pad, you are not going to know what the bills are going to be, so you really don't know what the proper savings will be until then - also on how much petrol money you will save, but I can see that being alot!
I will have a think.....
Wishing you all the best and load of luck.
As you say, its quite difficult to judge what the bills will be.. I know a few people that live in the area I am looking at and in similar houses, but my forecast is based on high assumptions, so whatever I can save from that will be a bonus..Froggy's New Lillypad FundTotal so far: £ 10,009.770 -

I've been a bit of a lurker for a while and have pretty much read your biography from start to finish! The ups and downs you go through sound completely unfair, but you always handle life with such a great attitude.
As for making a decent sum each month, the only thing I can add is to make sure your next place does have a spare room as that could come into it's own. I recently looked into lodgers, but I'm not happy with sharing my home 24/7. So, you can offer a "rent a room" for people coming over on holiday. The other alternative is offering the Monday - Friday only lodging. This is for people looking to relocate or working in a different area for a while who will want to go home at weekends but need somewhere to stay during work times. Both of these have the potential to pay more than a standard lodger would, and sound like less hassle. If you were to throw in some evening meals your feedback would seriously attract others so you'd find it easier to attract when your room was available.
I also have to say, your inner strength is inspiring. Good luck with whatever path you take.
Thanks for de-lurking MuffinTops..Yep you are right, a few friends have mentioned the rent a room scheme (Mon to Fri) and it might come in handy when I get into the next place..
Btw thanks for the compliment, you've cheered me up no end..Froggy's New Lillypad FundTotal so far: £ 10,009.770 -

My Ipod has been loaded up with new tunes (french music has its limit) ready for my road trip to the other side of the Channel! New dvd's have been purchased (french telly is dreadful
).. Xmas presents have been wrapped up & cards written & sent in the post..
Well, I have just got to survive this week's work, making sure my staff does not get bored whilst I am away..Put up with my boss's speech about the fact that I am taking 2 weeks holidays and I am not only letting him down, but the company & myself as well.. Oh well, tough life my friend, I ain't changing my plans to fulfill your dreams of making my life with misery.. Get a life and get on with it..:rotfl:
We are getting paid on the 16th, so if I have a chance, I will do all the money transfers before I leave and top up the Masterplan fund, if not I'll do it when I get back on the 24th..
Need to find my commercial smile to wear for the annual xmas lunch with the management team on the 16th.. Hope I manage to refrain myself from telling my peers what I 'really' think about them..:o oops could be a slippery terrain..
Oh well, 2012 is gonna be MY year! There will be no stopping me.. If you try stopping me, beware!
Cheers

Great to hear you so positive Froggy :jA positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Afternoon all :j
Out of the blue, got a call from the estate agent saying we have a viewing on Saturday.. Cue mad panic to get the house clean & tidy..
Also finished massive piece of work which i thought would have spilled into next year, but it has now been sorted out, so thats one less thing to worry about..
Am watching the weather forecast like a hawk, as the storms down South might be compromising my trip to France.. Some ferries have already been cancelled.. If anybody on the south coast (Potsmouth or nearby), could you have a look out of the window and tell me what the weather is like please? merci
Elvis & I are finishing wrapping the last few Christmas presents tonight, then having a go at making the place look good for Saturday..
Hope everybody is well?
Cheers
