I had that meeting with my boss yesterday.. I stuck to my guns, and I will be going on holidays.. He did not like the fact that I was not flexible.. Well I booked the ferry and the time off at the end of October and he agreed and signed my request.. Tough "dooda", he should have thought about it beforehand..

Anyway less than 3 weeks to go before I am off..:D

Yay...best thing you could do - its not as if you were going to be sitting at home, you have shelled out money for ferry travel etc...

Glad thats sorted...let the countdown commence;)

    Tum Kase Ho Froggy,

Not sure how I managed to miss the recent updates!! The only difference between me and Willy Wallace are that a) I couldn't life that bloody sword if I had a couple of helpers; and b) Once I'm in charge, the English will have to ask very nicely to get back in - you'll be ok for visits under the entante cordiale mind despite living among them!

Well done on putting the work folk in their place. Next time they try to pull anything, let them know that your legion of fans will be out picketing the building to such an extent that it'll be reminiscent of the recent public sector shouty day - best slogan of the day in Edinburgh was a straightforward sandwich board reading "my employer - c**t!" (obviously without the asterisks - if you're going to make a point, go the whole hog!).

Hope you have a fantastique time o'er the water and come back ready to take on the world. We're all missing your regular updates!

    Cheers,

    Billy

    Afternoon all, :j

After a few weeks of thinking things over (apologies for the lack of posts), I think I have finally found the way forward in my Grand Masterplan..;)
X-OH is moving out at the end of January, she has managed to negotiate a new deal with work which will see her live comfortably down South to pursue her career.. In the meantime, our house is still up for sale (not much movement there, but not really surprising due to the season), X-OH and I have agreed on a figure she will transfer to me to help me cover for the mortgage and bills, until the property is sold.. This will help me put some money aside in the meantime..

Anyway, I would not want to stay depressed at home, not doing anything and just complaining that life is not fair, therefore decision has been taken to engage 1st gear on my project:

Part 1 / Once house is sold, I will rent a property nearer to the town centre, with tram access and closer links to motorway – This will save me a lot of money in the long term, petrol wise, as currently return trip to work is 34 miles but mainly stuck in jams.. The area I am looking at is only about 5/6 miles from current work.. The strategy is that wherever I end up working, it will be easily commutable place to start from.. The monthly rent should be around £500/600 for a 2 bed mid terraced…

Part 2 / In the meantime, my aim is to get back onto the property ladder as soon as possible… Houses I am looking at, go up for sale around £85/90K (before negotiations), again for a 2 bed mid-terraced.. So I would be looking at a minimum 10% deposit £ 8.5K or what I would like is most likely 20% deposit £ 17.5K , which would attract much more competitive mortgage rates around 3%.. the timeline I am aiming for is January 2014.. In terms of deposit, being cautious, I will start from 0, as the little money I have aside will be swallowed up in moving costs/divorce… Mortgage payment on that kind of figures would end up in the region of £300 to £400 a month..

So the target is to raise £ 17.5K by January 2014, or by breaking it down £ 730.00 per month till then.. The issue is, the current budget is not agreeing with this figure, nowhere near to be precise.. I am looking at £150/200 spare a month if I keep things tight.. Now, I am not going to get disheartened by this setback, there must be a solution…

Part 3 / Raising available funds.. Current situation at work is not good.. Most likely, I will be made redundant at some point next year.. In today’s position, I would be looking at a redundancy package a smidge over £3K.. Not bad, I hear you say.. I agree, as long as I have another job to go into.. I have been registered with recruitment agencies for a little while now, but things are slow around here.. in order to match the required saving above I would need a £10K pay rise, that is highly unlikely, but you never know.. At best a £5K if I am very lucky..

What other solutions is there about? A part time job? Sell my organs? Play the lottery? Join a business, but that would defeat the idea as I would need capital investment?!?!? I am just a bit stuck for ideas..

So I turn to you my fellow MFW’s.. You are always full of great ideas.. How to raise £650 a month, starting from scratch..

I shall update my signature shortly to reflect the new plan..

    Cheers

Good to have you back with a plan Froggy.

Will you save a lot more once house sold i.e rent vs mortgage? Is it worth reducing asking price to be from there quicker?

Sorry to hear about the probable redundancy aswell.
