Greenbynature wrote: »Betty was a bit of a demon in her wheelchair,
and loved to charge around the nursing home,
taking corners on one wheel
and getting up to maximum speed on the long corridors.
Because the poor woman was one sandwich short of a picnic
the other residents tolerated her and some of them actually joined in.
One day Betty was speeding up one corridor
when a door opened and Kooky Clarence
stepped out with his arm outstretched.
'STOP!,' he shouted in a firm voice.
'Have you got a license for that thing?'Betty fished around in her handbag
and pulled out a Kit Kat wrapper
and held it up to him.
'OK' he said,
and away Betty sped down the hall.
As she took the corner near the TV lounge on one wheel,
weird Harold popped out in front of her
and shouted 'STOP!
Have you got proof of insurance?'
Betty dug into her handbag,
pulled out a drink coaster
and held it up to him.
Harold nodded and said
'On your way, Ma'am.'
As Betty neared the final corridor,
Crazy Craig stepped out in front of her,
Butt- Naked, and holding
his 'You-Know- What' in his hand.
'Oh, good grief,' yelled Betty,
'Not that Damn Breathalyzer Test again.!!!'

I just looked up stollen (as didn't have a clue! lol) and it looks VERY similar. Only difference I can see is that Kerststol has a marzipan like stuff running through the cake also.
Looking forward to Weds next week, when I fly to the UK!! I get to see all my friends and family.
Had a breakthrough with my OH this weekend. I've been trying to get him to buy his family something small each Christmas, and he's previously refused (tricky relationships there). A couple weeks ago, I mentioned that I would definitely get his Mum something this year as it doesn't feel right to keep accepting gifts from her without returning the favour. ANyway, didn't think anymore about it until Saturday when OH was looking up gifts for them all, and ordered them! I know it doesn't seem like much but that is a huge step forward for their relationship, so I'm really pleased for him.
Hope everyone is well! xx
I can totally sympathise, euro, as I seem to have ended up as my mother-in-law's little 'helper' where her son is concerned. they hardly spoke for years but he's gradually warming to her again after some chats we've had, and she puts it all down to me. i just think that she's 70 and life's too short.Mortgage-Free WannabeMortgage at start [20/6/12]: £151,800/MFD Jun 2035 (age 65)Mortgage now [5/11/14]: £139,212.14/MFD Oct 2029 (age 59)Personal Library 2014:starmod: Read in 2014: 57/60 :starmod: In Progress: 2 :starmod: Books In: 94 :starmod: Books Out: 12 :starmod: TBR: 847 :starmod:0 -
Hulllooooo thar!
Hope everyone's well. It's good to see so many new faces and new starts before Christmas!
Please put me down for £40.50 into various savings pots for the past few days.
My PADs will be diminishing a tad between now and payDay (which is next Friday) as we have only done a miniscule amount of our Christmas shopping thus far. However I will be putting as much as possible on my c/c (that I pay off each month) to try and buff up my cashback total before it's paid in March. Having said that, any bonuses we get at Christmas will be going straight into savings too, so here's hoping, eh? (fat chance!)

Exactly, OH's Mum is younger, but she's not in the greatest of health. Plus, it was one incident that caused the problem and he seems to disregard the previous 26/27 years of wonderful mothering on her part (including keeping a roof over their heads and feeding them after their dad walked out).
I understand why he was so upset, but I've been gently reminding him that should the worst happen tomorrow, he'd regret not having moved forward, at least a little.
I feel bad for her sometimes too. She sends little packages to us every now and then with some of our favourite treats or general things we can't find here. Stuff that shows she pays attentions and cares and he quite often says 'Oh yeah, she's trying to buy my love again'.
Anyway, it's moving forward, she comes for visits more frequently now and he visited her whilst he was over at his brother's in September (he didn't bother the last time we went back) and now this, so it's all going well.
I know his brother is happy I've managed to soften him up a little on this issue as it was really upsetting him too.February wins: Theatre tickets0 -

Oh man I've heard that one. And the little gifts and such. Difference in our situation is that she left 20 or so years ago and he's always taken his dad's side. However I've lived with his dad and I suspect he's only heard one side of the story.

I don't get it, cos she's never tried to buy his love before. His Dad is the one guilty of that.
Anyway, they're moving forward which is great.
I wish you luck too!February wins: Theatre tickets0 -
