Has anybody else had this? Got an email off sky saying that they are increasing their prices by £2.50 a month. I already pay about £60 a month for every channel and the hd packages and dont see how they can just up their prices like that.

anyway when i get home im going to complain

What makes you think they cant just up their prices? Sky are a commercial enterprise not a public service and will (and can) charge what the market can stand.

They will be increasing yet again in January when the ConDem increase in VAT hits prices.

It really belies any fanciful notion that BT or Virgin have in some way created competition in the market. There is still a monopoly when it comes to paid digital satellite broadcasting in the UK and it is only when this sector has competition will prices come down.

I agree there - but I also disagree there !

Competition means (to my simple mind, anyway !) being able to buy the same, or very similar product, from a choice of vendors - cornflakes from Tesco, Waitrose, Asda, Lidl, etc, etc.

"Competition" on Television is nothing like that !
For example: At one time Sky had the monopoly rights for live premiereship football - then "competition" was introduced - I then had to pay an extra £10 a month to Setanta/ESPN to watch the same number of games that I used to watch on Sky for £20 a month.

The people that "organised" this (p*** up ?) then tell me that I have now more "choice" - I can watch Arsenal V Man Utd on ESPN for another tenner or I can watch Barking Rovers V Croydon United on Sky !!!

Even the availability of Sky Sports via BT does nothing to introduce competition - as we have seen by Sky's recent sleight of hand with their prices.

The government needs to get a grip with $ky, but every single government has a love in or runs scared of Murdoch.

Agreed 100%, sadly this new ConDem lot seem to be of the same ilk.

Mine goes up by £3 (£39 to £42). I only have basic plus the sports package - no HD. 8% is quite an increase

Got this Info via the new magazine.

Are they not changing the Terms&Conditions as soon as they change the price, which would then mean I could leave Sky more or less straight away? Or is this for Sky different?

Maybe we need virginsports1 showing the exact same game at the same time, then we'll have competition!

If you do not like the price someone charges you for goods or services then you have the option not to purchase. What do you think the reaction would be if lots of people were to cancel their subscriptions to $ky?

The grey market to watch live EPL football for the last four years has been my choice, and the choice of many others. This year my foot broadcasts will come from Bulgaria and cost me less than £100, including 3pm kick offs.

    EPL What's that

    No such thing exists

It's called the Premier League not the EPL
