Just an update, Jewellery Quarter in Brum, no one was even interested at all, most saying diamonds have not much value at present and only gold is any good for scrap.

So my next idea is this:

Use the ring to create 2 rings one for me and one for her, thus saving money and keeping in the MSE theme :D

Anyone recommend a place where they would undertake this type of work?

    Thanks in advance.

Hello, I'm so sorry it was unsaleable. But I think it will be more expensive to reshape that ring into two than to leave that as her ring and buy yourself one. They will need to add more metal to it, and other complicated work.

My fella's 9ct wedding ring, from a random relatively expensive independent jewellers was £300.

I think you will be looking at around £300 to change the one ring into two?
    I love surprises!
  • You should find some craftsmen at the jewellery quarter, or I can recommend a silversmith who also works in gold. However you may find this is as expensive as getting yourself a ring, and I'm not sure if there would be enough gold to make two as Gents rings are generally bigger and bulkier.

I was in a jewellers today seeing about getting a ring of my Dads made into a wedding band.
They told me 25% of the gold is 'lost' in melting and reshaping so not sure it would be worth trying tbh.
My original ring is 19grams and I would have to add more gold to it to make a sz J and a size T band so it doesn't go far

eta: Each ring costs £50 labour to make and this is quite a cheap workshop
