Where to sell on an unwanted Wedding Ring?

Comments

  • Why can she not see that wine, flowers etc are short lived?
The love and affection you put into buying these rings in the first place will outlive any token gesture for the wedding day itself?
That day will pass by very quickly, but the rings you have bought her will last her forever.
Tell her to grow up, she indicated that she wanted them in the first place and I assume was what she wanted at the time.
Not being a mind reader, how were you to know that she would rather fritter money away on wine and flowers?
I would strongly suggest that you draw her attention to the fact that you thought so highly of her to purchase them for her.
If she cannot see that then is she just looking for a lavish wedding day, just to impress others, rather than focussing on the two people who matter, you and her?
Personally, I would be thrilled if someone took the same time and obvious devotion to think so highly of me.

if u re-read the first thread i di put a tongue in cheek smiley! ie taking the micky, she is not shallow or money orientated. If I show her this thread she would be horrified and more than likely cause upset.

She is more than happy about the ring I just felt I should have had more thought process before impulse buying, anyway less criticism and more guidance thanks :D

I'm not judging your wife to be but you may be better off trying to see this as an investment, would you rather spend £2000 on wine and not even remember your wedding day? I'd love to have been able to spend over £100 on my wedding ring but the budget wont allow it, at least with jewellery you know that if you have a quality piece it willl increase in value and also last. My parents got a platinum ring when it was very unfashionable, they paid £25 for it, it's worth a fortune now

It's probably a huge shock to her, our car didn't cost 2 grand, I'd be speechless for a week if OH brought something like that home. He's the kind that thinks he's doing a good thing without following the thought process to think of the outcome too :D

As others have said insurance value differs from the actual value of the ring because this is based on what it would cost to replace it should it get lost. If you take it to an independent jeweller then they are more likely to offer scrap value for it based on weight especially if it is gold because the gold price is high, but expect to get a lot less than you paid for it.

Bear in mind that if you buy a new ring then it would need to be the same carat as the engagement ring (it can't be 9ct if the ring is 18ct) because it would wear away the softer ring.

I think it is fabulous that you bought her the ring that she wanted even though the price was a little crazy. Rings last for ever whereas flowers die and the wine can be drunk once and then its gone. Perhaps you can compromise in other areas to compensate for the ring cost? Think about offering to do the washing up for the next 6 months or so too:rotfl:

When it comes to big purchases in future - make a joint decision and think about it for a while before making the purchase rather than buying on impulse and regretting later.

Ask the independent jeweller if he will consider swapping it to a 9ct ring - it never hurts to ask. Or thinking about it differently, have the ring melted down and made into something else that way you still have it but in a different form.

    Good luck.
