Where to sell on an unwanted Wedding Ring?

Bought a ring for my wife-to-be, she indicated she liked it so bought it for her as a surprise, she has gone a little mad as it was expensive and more than she would like to pay for a ring, money could be spent better elsewhere (apparently flowers & wine :P)

I have tried on eBay for the last 4 weeks or so, but not had any joy, anyone recommend a way to recover most of my money?

ie selling online or an establishment to caters for this?

Ring cost £2,200, I have had it officially valued as well due to the value.

Thanks in advance

Independant jewellers will offer you a price.

Jewellery has a terrible mark-up though, you're unlikely to get the value back. It's possibly not worth quite as much as you paid if no one bought it on eBay. Have a look at the cost of equivalents rather than what you paid/it's valuation.
    I love surprises!

Can't you take it back to where you got it from?

No I bought it abroad :(

    @maggie111

Think my price is a good price as I had it valued (for insurance) and had a good discount as I bought the engagement ring at the same time.

Probably be happy with 50-70% of my costs back and learn from my mistakes.

That is possible, can I leave you to do that ;)

I also think I may have spent too much so happy to get a cheaper ring and spend the money elsewhere.

yeah but as they say its the thought that counts, you made a lovely gesture on something that is going to last the rest of her life unlike the actual wedding day which lasts just one day. you thought about what she liked not the money, money isnt everything. it was a romantic thought and in fairness she shouldve bitten her tongue and accepted that you had made an effort, not every woman is tat lucky to have someone who will do that for them.

unfortunately, like cars, jewelry loses most of its value as soon as it leaves the shop. Have you tried local classified ads? Personally, I agree that your future wife should have thought herself lucky and kept it buttoned!

years ago, i had a ring that was valued at £1200 but no jeweller would ofer me more than £60 as they only deal in weight. valuations (so i was told) are specifically for insurance purposes and not sale value. you may not get anywhere near the price you want without a private sale and give that point, it might be worth reconsidering unless you find that private sale..

very often you will find when you stop 'needing' it to be sold, it will naturally happen. i think the call it 'sods law'. ;)

Your B2B is mad that you spent so much money on a ring, your prepared to sell it and lose money on it in order to purchase a cheaper ring to keep her happy? So in actual fact by the time the second ring in purchased if you factor in the amount lost from the sale of the first ring its still going to be an expensive ring:undecided

Think i would be inclined to point this out and remind her she is being slightly unreasonable in the whole affair. Many of the ladies on this site struggle to get enough money together to have matching sets from Argos let alone have such an extravagence placed on their hands on their special days.
