Until the end of your minimum term contract.

I suppose I aksed for that. I meant when do the rule changes come in. I see there is still a penalty but it 80% less.

I think I stand corrected. BT did have a major stake in Telephonica as they were trying to merge with them. Sorry for my misinformation. So lets all jump ship to O2 in October;-)

i have got out of my 12 months rolling contract with BT (second time this year) due to price increases / change of terms and conditions (October price rises) so have been able to move to o2 without penalty.

i would suggest you engage BT by email as the callback is more effective than attempting to call them.

it's worth pointing out that bt still represent good value, and is probably better from a negotiation point of view, when you get out of contract.

....and join yet another company ( O2 ) that imposes long contracts?

You may not need to wait until October depending on what BT does in the meantime.

It is possible to end a contract with BT early at no cost in the following circumstances. This was quoted at me by BT only after I repeatly complained about the cost of changes to my contract.
"If we have made a change which is to your material disadvantage, you will not have to pay a charge if you decide to end your agreement early, unless the Tariff Guide says otherwise. However, once we have told you about such a change, you must let us know that you want to end the agreement within 10 days."

Ofcom informed me of the same fact on the phone without the exceptions when I complained to them about the cost of changes to my contract. If I was unhappy about any change to my material disadvantage I could leave my provider to one of the hundreds of alternative suppliers at no cost.

This seemed to be OFCOM approach to the problem rathar than deal with a complaint about the number and cost of changes to my contract made by BT over the last year if I did not like them I could just leave BT without any fees.

As my BT contract only had 7 days notice these facts had no use for me and I just wanted to stop BT forcing me out of a contract. I failed to do this.

I hope however what BT quoted can help someone else.
