Mags,
Wow, that has jolted me to reread that post which I did just days before my car accident. I stated that I was having lots of little accidents
I saw the Dr yesterday following the car accident and he has diagnosed depression. I declined the medication and counselling (at least for the next 2 weeks) whilst I see how I go on. I am currently investigating some self help techniques. Starting with some pampering I am trying to find a good hairdresser and I am going to treat myself to an aromatherapy facial I think. However I am happy to take any help if I feel that things are not improving.
Thank you so much for your post and for quoting that back at me.
Oh gosh, I didn't mean the car accident. That was a separate issuse caused by the dangerous roads and lots of other people are having road accidents because of the snow. It would most likely have happened anyway but has obviously upset you even more.
I take medication for anxiety which is probably why the post I quoted stood out a bit to me. You say the GP diagnosed depression, most likely because you are upset and extra stressed after the car incident but what you wrote a few days back sounds more like anxiety. The two conditions tend to be interchanged a lot because people often tend to suffer from both. Generally anti-depressants are prescribed for both conditions anyway.
I take anti-depressants for anxiety, lowest dose and they help a lot but I think it's a good idea that you wait a while before deciding to take them or not. Doctors are generally very quick to prescribe meds and it's good that you have the option but you might not need them.
The snow and the cold is making life more difficult for everyone, it's dark a lot and it's more difficult to cope with things in general this time of year. It is indeed possible that with a few days off and some pampering things will improve things for you.
Those people at the boarding kennels don't deserve your money, they were really rude to you. Most normal people understand that people are going to miss appointments because of the snow and bad roads.Total debt 11/1/2011 €5350.65Total debt 12/12/12 €3222.31CrazyClothesChallenge 2013 #006 €34.08/€5000 -
Now Mrs Lovely Lady, remember what I said on my diary. Depression is a physical condition not mental, "pulling yourself together and all that" is not what it is about - you will understand when you read that book.
Depression is caused by a lack of Seratonin (sp?) in the brain, this means all the links can't work and the chain breaks. Medication helps the Seratonin levels rise and start the links working again.
Herbal remedies such as St Johns Wort arent that great, especially as some have such low doses of anything in them they are more like a placebo.
Medication should be run alongside rest and other ideas such as aromatherapy massages which helps you switch off and rest.
Lecture over - guess what I did this morning. Car was stuck on drive (only hill in the flat lands) so put exhibition carpet down to get a grip on the ice, DH put the car in gear and pulled forward, I was stood on the carpet - stoooooopid! - the tyres pulled the carpet out from under me and I went splat in the snow :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:.

You don't want to be doing that, because that's silly...
But just as a word of warning, keep clear from any car that's trying to get away in the snow as it can go in any direction, including sideways. Even pushing, make sure you keep your feet as you don't want to fall over and then have it slide backwards over the top of you..."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

 PIPPA  Why is it that we just dont think things through sometimes? I hope that you are ok, have you hurt yourself? Get yourself checked out.
By the way, lecture much appreciated. I kind of know all that and you are saying all of the things that I would say to somebody else. it is a weird thing when you are in the position yourself. I am finding it hard to listen to my own lectures so you come out as often as you like to have a finger wagging session at me.
By the way is seratonin increased by eating chocolate. I have just polished off the box that I got for my birthday yesterday:eek:Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Why is it that people think I am stupid? Or more to the point why to men in garages immediately assume that women wont ask questions?
I phoned the approved garage this morning to ask when they will be delivering my hire car as per the insurance company instructions (I figure that the sooner I get in a car the better - even if I only sit in it on the drive til the snow goes) to be told that they hadnt collected my car and asked me what the damage was. I told them what I thought and what the recovery guy had told me. He said he would ring me back in 10 minutes.
20 minutes later the insurance rang to tell me that the assesment was that the car was written off. Strange ,I said, I thought that the approved garage had to make that decision and as it wasnt with them 10 minutes earlier how did they manage to make an assesment when the car is at least one hours drive away from them? He was quite shocked. It seems that from when I notify the insurance the garage have 24 hours to collect the car and 24 hours to deliver a courtesy car to me. He said he would investigate. Rang me back and said that he had read the riot act to them and it wasnt up to them to decide it was written off it was up to the insurance company based on cost of repair. He said that he had assumed based on the information given to him. Insurance guy reckons that due to age of car and damage it is likely to be written off but that I should still be provided with a courtesy car for a minimum of 3 days.

I'm fine, was lots of snow to land in
. Luckily I was higher up the slope than the car which is currently now parked out on the road ready to use later. If I cant get mine out tomorrow I'll go across the divide between us and next door as he's put loads of salt on his drive.
When an idiot hit my Renault up the back I took it to an approved repairer who knew me very well, he also knew what a pain in the wotsit I can be over a bad paint job, my car was written off (as it should have been) but for a far higher payout than I had expected - cheaper to pay me off and get rid of me than respray a car 2 or 3 times
Stick to your guns with them, do not accept any first offer of a value, research autotrader, and regional garages for comparisons. For example - if we drive 30 miles one way we can pay up to £1k more for a car than going 30 miles the other way for the same one - location is all important.0 -
How are you feeling today, bit stiff and sore still, no doubt?0
-
Hey Pippa. Thanks for asking. Yes, still stiff and sore. Had lots of toing and froing with the hire car business. Finally got the hire car at 2pm this afternoon so I took Moo out for a run to the forest (he has been on very short lead walks and garden all week because I couldnt manage to walk as far as the forest) He is very happy now. I am pleased because I managed the drive well and I wasnt too scared as I thought that I might be. Have overdone it a bit today though because I (stupidly) felt a bit better and tried moving the sofa to hoover. Now sitting here thinking I shouldnt have done that but hey life is too short to sit on my behind.
In other matters I have been mind mapping and plotting ways to see the way out of the fog. All of which will be put into action after Christmas. For now I am going to take things each day at a time. I will probably start a new diary when I return (bit of a cliche at the start of the year but I want to get a whole new perspective once I am rested up)Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Life's too short to be hoovering under sofas! :rotfl:
Glad you're feeling a little better, even if stiff and sore. And I'm SO glad you've finally got that blinking hire car! :T :T Hope you've had several apologies for all the fiasco  and glad Moo got a nice run in the forest
Glad you've been plotting - always good for the spirit I believeAnd hooray to a new diary - this one is lovely of course :d but a shiney new one is always exciting too

Well, I wont be starting it just yet. BUT I might just start it before I head off to the Alps as I believe that I have internet access there so I might be able to blog and things. I might even start a new travel blog because one of my plotting episodes involves FWs theory of the 20%/10%/70% wotsit (must go back and read it) and I intend to start spending my spending money on trips. Like you Cheery I love to travel and try and see new things and I have realised that this is sadly lacking in my life. Just need to work out the travelling budget. OH will not, absolutely not, compromise on his skiing holidays (2 per year - this year it will be 3) as he says that is what keeps him from slipping backwards. So I intend to take a leaf from his book. My friend (ex MIL) wants to go to Butler and Wilson shop before she is on her zimmer so we are plotting a trip to London in February. OH not aware yet that he will be on dogsitting duties
So a new diary will help me to focus on how I alot my money. I just hope that OH keeps his contract past the end of January which isnt looking too promising at the moment. Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar.
