Nope. You technically only need a driving licence.

We have Spanish Residency id cards (with our fingerprints on), as well as British passports and driving licences, but I think it is only the UK who don't accept either the residency card or driving licence. AFAIK, all other EU countries do.

My husband's passport expires next year. We have to renew it at the British Consulate in Madrid; hopefully he will benefit from the price change if we do it now. Thanks for telling us about it.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

Apparently you don't have to pay if you were born prior to a certain date in 1929 - not a lot of people know thet, & not a lot will be able to benefit!

I am 35 and really struggled reading that paragraph as well - what hope is there for any of us, LOL!! Why do people type in 'text' talk? It is not like they are limited for space here.

OK, MOnday moan over. I am glad I spotted this as I have my form filled out in front of me and have been dilly-dallying over it for the last week. Time ti give myself a kick up the butt and get hubby to do the dreaded pics before the prices go up.

    Thanks.

How do you tell if there's a chip in your passport? Is is clearly visible?
I renewed mine earlier this month and can't see one anywhere.

Plus, I've heard that the US will be requiring biometric passports from 26th October, is this right? I'm worried that the passport I've just got won't even let me into the US if I decide to go!!!

As long as you have a computer readable passport then you will not require a visa to enter the USA. However at some point in the future they could easily change the criteria. As far as I am aware all UK passports are now computer readable.

If you passport has a chip, you will find it on the back of the page to where your photo and details are.

  • The new Passport Fees come into effect on 5th October 2006. Adult passport's go up from £51 to £66 and children's passport's go up from £34 to £45.

Now is the time to renew your passport, even if you have up to nine months left on your old passport, renew it now and your new passport will be valid for 10years and 9 months (children 5 years and 9 months. Please note, you can not do this if you have over 9 months left on your passport.

To get in at the old price the Passport Office must receive your application forms by 5th October and the passports must be issued by 26th October.

By acting now we have saved £22 on new passports for our children.

I hope you are in a position to use this advice to save yourself some money!!!

Just 3 working days left to get your passport applications in and to save yourselves quite a bit of money!!!

  • Sorry if you got to read all this after the 5th October 2006 but it is now to late to get your passports at the old price.

Well done to those of you who were able to take advantage of the advice and beat another of Gordon's Inflation Busting Stealth taxes.:rotfl:
