If you apply for your new passport just before the 5th October deadline, your new one will probably be issued some time during the week commencing 23rd October. Providing your old passport has less than 9 full months left on it when your new one is issued then your new one will be valid for 10 years and up to 9 full months. But beware! If on the date they issue your new passport, you still have over 9 months left on your old one then the new one will be issued for the standard 10 years. I hope this explains it okay.IF THIS POST HAS BEEN HELPFUL - PLEASE CLICK ON THANKS :j0 -

The new Biometric Passport with chips in them are not meant to be issued until after 26/10/06. Do your new ones have micro chips in them or are they just computer readable with the your photo digitised into the page of the passport.
Sorry, I've only just spotted this. Yes, our passports have the chips.0 -
Wonderful - That is great news.
As the new biometric passports with microchips are being issued already at the old prices, then why on earth would anyone want to wait until the new prices are in before they apply.
If you passport is expiring in the next 9 months, apply now and save some money. Your new passport will be extended by the number of unused months on your old passport up to a maximum of 9 months.IF THIS POST HAS BEEN HELPFUL - PLEASE CLICK ON THANKS :j0 -
Well done the Passport Office. We posted our application forms for our new passports on 16th September and got the new ones back today - a 6 day turnaround. As CPU indicated they are the new biometric ones with microchips. This is a really excellent service.IF THIS POST HAS BEEN HELPFUL - PLEASE CLICK ON THANKS :j0

Bearing in mind that the adult ones are going up by £15 each and the kids by £11 each it is still worth doing them now. They will be staight 10 year and 5 year passports but its worth losing the 11 months for the long term saving that you will make.:j
Also, if your holiday in may is to the USA you will need to have 6 months remaining on your passport to qualify for the Visa Waiver Programme, otherwise its a trip for all of you to the US embassy in London to spend load of money on visas.:mad:IF THIS POST HAS BEEN HELPFUL - PLEASE CLICK ON THANKS :j0 -
