But we will probably never arrive at that situation, because of perceived fear.

  • I think we're drifting in the direction of another terror thread... That's why we ALL have to have passports to travel anywhere or even do anything in our own country.

This business of the Blairites saying, "they will not change our lives." Well, the only people I can see changing my life are the Blairites. So in hindsight the terror loonies are being allowed to win. I'd much rather we didn't take any notice, didn't go poking our noses in other people's business, and just got on with life. It doesn't bother me. Our lives are already mapped out. What happens happens.

Regarding the Blairites (that's my word for today.)

It's those that clothe themselves in good deeds that we have to be wary of. And when it continually affects the money in my pocket, I get very wary.
  • I agree that the cost of a passport is outrageous. It has risen enormously in the last couple of years.

In effect it is yet another Stealth Tax!

No! A passport is not obligatory it is a needed if you go an holiday abroad , which I guess is still classed as a luxury and as it lasts for ten years it works at to roughly 14p a week
Actually , I tried to open a new bank account recently and was refused as I have neither a valid passport nor a full driving licence. So a passport is now a necessity; unless a bank account is classed as a luxury too?

Another perceived fear, remember the days when you could draw your own money out without a pass-port or even open an account:cry: The good old days. How did we manage. The compliant have not yet realised ,perhaps one morning they will wake up ,but it will be too late.

  • Will the new passports at the new price not have a biometric chip which would make getting into the states easier in the future?

Mine needs renewed in Feb but I am not sure whether to do it now or wait a few months to get a biometric passport.

Rewnewed my passport a couple of weeks ago. Still had ten months left on it but decided to get a renewal before the price hike. My new issue is biometric. I think they all are now. Don't wait until Feb, apply now.

Over 6 members of my family applied at different times over the last 6 - weeks. Every one of us got the new Biometric passport. I know they are guaranteed to be Biometric after the October date but they all seem to be Biometric for all applications now anyway.

The new Biometric Passport with chips in them are not meant to be issued until after 26/10/06. Do your new ones have micro chips in them or are they just computer readable with the your photo digitised into the page of the passport.

Whatever type of UK passport you have, it will still get you into the USA whilst the Visa Waiver programme continues so save some money and get your application in before 5th October.
IF THIS POST HAS BEEN HELPFUL - PLEASE CLICK ON THANKS :j
  • The new Passport Fees come into effect on 5th October 2006. Adult passport's go up from £51 to £66 and children's passport's go up from £34 to £45.

Now is the time to renew your passport, even if you have up to nine months left on your old passport, renew it now and your new passport will be valid for 10years and 9 months (children 5 years and 9 months. Please note, you can not do this if you have over 9 months left on your passport.

To get in at the old price the Passport Office must receive your application forms by 5th October and the passports must be issued by 26th October.

By acting now we have saved £22 on new passports for our children.

I hope you are in a position to use this advice to save yourself some money!!!

going to renew mine soon(before oct:D ) it is valid till july, but will save £15 on mine alone.
not sure if my sons needs doing aswell, will have to check.
going away in june,so best to have new one anyway.wont be travelling abroad before then, unless i win the lottery!!!
anyway off to apply for a form.
