virgin media contract..

Hi there, just got off the phone with virgin media, I was looking to add sky sports to my package for the coming football season.

I thought I could try and negotiate a deal as I've had my tv and broadband package for a year now, but have been told that when I added the phone service in november I started a new 12 month contract!

Is this right? Or am I being fobbed off?

I currently have XL tv with V+, L BB and M phone for £49/month.
Looking through other threads I don't think I'm getting a very good deal!
Ideally I would like add Sky Sports, and have looked into dropping the tv to M+, but this still works out around £55/month.
Is there anything i can do to get the price down when my contract (supposedly) isn't up until November?

Any advice/opinions would be appreciated.

thanks

Dan

I'm not sure, but everything i've adjusted my services the 12 months seems to just start over again. I'm sure I did it a couple of times one year.

Isn't the V+ free with XL? Maybe that's adding to the new quote?

It is free with XL, and £5 with the lower packages, so dropping to L tv is pretty pointless, as it will only save me a fiver.
I was hoping to use the 'I'm thinking of leaving' line but I'll have to put that on hold for a few months!

That will teach me to read the small print!

All I do is tell them what I'd like, and what can they offer me?

Also, if you see a deal offered to potential new customers, I believe you can request them to look at your own package and match it.

Thanks I will give that a try.
It's near impossible to price up a deal for existing customers on the VM website!

I usually see them in the paper (Sun - OH's paper, not mine:) )

It's how I made my first phone call, I got the right hump because I was paying more for being a customer for over 10 years, and they matched the deal near enough.

If you do one, write the date in your diary. If you don't do another deal by the end of the 12 months the charges resort to full price.

    Simples !!!
I told them I was "going" to sky with a great offer, mind you I had already cancelled my broadband (an hour or so earlier), I called back because I couldn't remember the cut off date. The lad from Scotland, asked why I was canceling my broadband told him about "the" sky package and he went away for a few mins and came back with £48.74 per month.

What he did was calculate the cost of the the sky package for the year, and he can back with this great deal for a year. He even threw in a new modem (which I needed) and a wireless router (which I told him I didn't need, I didn't want to look greedy!!):p

I did do some research and really had phoned bt and sky, they both offered me packages, some better than others, and I was genuinely going to telephone sky to take them up on their offer, maybe he could tell I wasn't bluffing!
    I hope this helps!

Two years in a row Ive tried to call their bluff but theyve said they cannot save me anything further.

Theyve offered me a further £2.50 off this year and I dont have to commit to another 12 months so I said yes sir.
