Green Wedding Ideas??? (merged)

I am getting our wedding rings from https://www.touchwoodrings.ca - they are in Canada but I really love their values - they are a husband and wife who live a simple life in the middle of nowhere. They make wooden rings to order - you specify design (type of weed etc.). I have only exchanged a few emails with them so far but they seem lovely and have answered my many, many questions.
The rings are made of wood - mostly from their own trees and there are details on the sit about how the wood is collected etc. The fact that they are made of wood means that they have to be treated with more care but there are plenty of details on the website about this.
I know that buying from Canada is not ideal but I just really like these people and their lovely lifestyle. There are no prices on the website but to give you an idea I have been quoted approx. 290USD per ring which is about £150 each - I know it is not cheap but I can choose the wood (they have meanings for each wood on the website) and have exactly the design i want. There will never be another ring the same as mine as each piece of wood is unique.
They sometimes take a couple of days to reply to emails - their first grandson has just been born - but they will answe anything.
This is the most exciting part of my wedding - that and the fact that I will be wearing wellies!
Great links on the website too about 'dirty gold'!0 -
Couldn't you just buy second hand rings?Proud to be a moneysaver! :cool:0

Buy a couple of second hand rings, take these to a local jewellery designer and ask for ideas/designs. You'll have something original, locally made and designed just for you. Buying new stones, especially diamonds, fuels a highly corrupt market, so if you find stones you like in an old ring so much the better.
Good luck and Congraulations!

Hi all
Thanks for all the ideas on here, very useful. I am getting married next year and trying to plan a money-saving and green wedding - but finding this easier said than done!
Anyway, does anyone have any ideas for flowers? The wedding is in June. I don't want to use a florist who is going to fly flowers in from half-way across the world, plus florists can be really expensive. I don't have a big garden so can't really grow them all myself.
thanks - once I've done some more planning I'll share some tips!0 -
There is company in Chichester who design and make rings from ethically sourced gold. http://www.cred.tv/
I should let you know that I have an interest because my wife normally designs the rings, although she in on Maternity leave a the moment.0 -
Have you any green fingered friends/relatives/neighbours who could grow or does grow flowers?? Or failling that is there a nursery nearby where you could buy a pot or two of seasonal flowers, then cut and tie them yourself for the bouquet?

The way we are going, our budget will be more like £50 :rolleyes:0 -
I saw a company on london tonght that makes rings out of bone grafted culture. So I give a bit of my bone & its made into OHs ring and vice versa.
I do remember it was very expensive but we think its a lovely idea- so are choosing that regardless of cost. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Is that the same as the one mentioned on this blog?

Nice idea but wisdom tooth extraction sounds a bit scary to me :eek:0 -

Sounds a bit "hannibal" to me.
I know a load of goffs who would love it though. :-)
Edit: thinking about it, it's very unethical too (profitting drugs companies that test on animals for what amounts to vanity surgery).
And it still uses "traditional" metals, likely from the usual unethical sources.ॐ Signature Removed by Someones Mum. ॐ0
