The question that should be asked is the sim he has been using in it PAYG or Contract.

Because i purchased an O2 PAYG iPhone 3GS but used a Contract sim in it. And just filled out the unlock page on the O2 website with my contract details in it. And within 10 days it was officially unlocked.

For me, it took 3 days before I got the message from O2 saying my phone is unlocked. I dont think they will do it in store (O2 store).

Thanks, he's submitted the request online so just need to wait now until he gets the message then I'll buy it & put my 3 sim in.

So then I just plug into my i tunes account & I will be able to load the music & apps I have on my touch?

Not sure about getting contacts off a sim as the beauty of the iphone is that it can pull all your contacts (plus calendars notes etc) off your email account, so you never need to be reliant on storing anything locally on the phone.

I use exchange to sync all my contacts, calendars etc but it also works really well with yahoo gmail etc
