using 3 sim in i phone
Options
I am on a contract with 3 with unlimited internet.
If i buy an iphone off a friend which is currently locked to O2, do I just take the i phone to 'man on the market/ local shop' & get it unlocked? Will I then just be able to access my 3 contact as with putting the sim into any phone?
Also I have an i pod touch at the moment. How do I get my music on the i phone, is it as easy as plugging the i phone into my i tunes?

What package is he on? PAYG or contract? If it's contract get him to send off an unlock request on the o2 website (it's free for contracts) If he's on a PAYG iPhone SIM it may be trickier. It's only £15 for the official o2 unlock but he would lose the free web and wifi offer (not much an issue in the last month or two, if not then it may be.
However if he isn't on an official iPhone tarrif I am not sure o2 will unlock.
If this doesn't apply to your friend we'd need to know Model/Firmware/Baseband details, it's possible your friend has updated the phone making an unlock impossible at this time.0 -
bump - any advice?
thanks0 -
I did, you need to clarify what his tariff is, if it's an iPhone one get the official unlock, it won't be killed by a firmware update.
If it isn't we would need to know model/firmware/baseband version to be able to tell you if it can be unlocked.
I would advise against paying for an unofficial unlock from "the man on the market" since unlocking isn't that difficult if it possible but if you're not comfortable doing it then fair enough.
Regarding the iPod Touch music library, as long as the music is present in iTunes then resynching with the iPhone is not a problem.0 -
Thanks.
I'll find out a bit more from him tomorrow & see if he can get it unlocked.0 -
Great.
Can you ask him to go to Settings>General>About and tell us
A) The model 2G/3G/3GS (this isn't in settings)The 4th and 5th digits of the serial number (important for 3GS)
C) The Firmware version (found under "Version")
D) The baseband version (found under "Modem Firmware")

He's told me it's 3GS
Don't know the rest yet0 -
Ignore this.0

It's a PAYG.
So if he gets it unlocked at the O2 shop, I will just be able to put my 3 sim card in it & use the allowances I have?
