    Yes it does work... sometimes.

Probably best to start with where you want to travel to and from, rather than looking for a journey that can be profitably split and then trying to fit that into your travel plans. ;)

Where and when do you want to travel?

When you asked this last time (a few days ago) you got some examples.

I'm actually trying to create a web service that will compare ticket prices, allowing users to find the absolute cheapest way to travel.

Just need some examples to get to work on the algorithm :)

Good luck with creating your website, just be very careful were you get your info/fares from, because if its link to a train companies website, trainline or uses Avantix software in anyway then those companies could object under copyright legislation and close the site down.

A recent example of this was www.splitfare.co.uk which went from 'SplitFare is down for maintenance.
This is due to the rail industry wanting to rip off rail users' to after an apparent complaint (sic) to 'New app coming soon'

But to help you, you could try http://splityourticket.co.uk/routes/list-of-all-routes.aspx as this site lists all its routes and split points and IIRC is linked to the trainline.con but I could be wrong (lots of trainline adverts/links)

I can assure you the example I gave you a few days ago DOES work, time and time again.

Just had a look on trainline.con and the example I gave you still works as well.

I was looking at a train journey the other day as last week I got back from a work trip to Aberdeen and no way am I driving that again.

Newport (Gwent) -> Aberdeen advance booking £160 return (normal train to Crewe, wait an hour, then get sleeper train to Aberdeen)

Newport (Gwent) -> London Paddington advance booking £22 return
Paddington -> Euston, how much is a zone 4 travel card these days? Surely not more than a tenner.
London Euston -> Aberdeen £66 return on the very same sleeper train

Ok it's a longer journey, but given the choice of an opportunity to bod about in London, maybe do some shopping or something vs siting on a platform in Crewe, surrounded by chavs and unable to leave the station, I know which option I would prefer.

Why would you need a Zone 4 Travelcard for Paddington to Euston? Both Paddington & Euston are in zone 1.

Unless you have an Oystercard with PAYG money it's cheaper to pay the one off fare rather than get a Travelcard for this journey
