Neighbour complains about a dirty car!!

Hi,
i don't know if this is the right place to post but i am a bit in shock. We are in the process of having our driveway reflagged. This is being done by a professional company but due to weather problems it was started on friday and has carried on over the weekend. After the builders had gone this afternoon a new neighbour from across the road came over to complain about the dust from the flagging has fallen on his car and made it dirty:eek:. My husband apolgised and said we didn't know what we could do but he would speak to the builders. We then saw the neighbours taking pictures of the dust on his car before he drove off somewhere, perhaps to get it cleaned. As far as we could tell today he wasn't parked outside his house all day today or on his own driveway. I am a bit taken aback by this and wondering what the neighbour hopes to achieve.
Has this happened to anyone else or does anyone have any ideas.
Thanks
Al

Give him the name of the company and let him argue it over with them.

Should be interesting for him to prove the dust is all from the work being done on your property.

Just looked at my car and its dirty, can i claim from you as well? lol

To be fair work like that is going to kick up a lot of dust.

We had the same problem when we got cavity wall insulation put in.

Loads of drilling meant it kicked up dust which went all over our cars and 2-3 houses down.

Dust isnt massive amount but some people are really obsessive about their cars and one of them had a go at the blokes doing it.

I think they did call head office who said they would pay for a clean as they should have been using some thing on the drill to minimise the dust and they werent.

Used to have a company car that needed to be washed weekly and if I had just washed it and next door covered it with dust I would be a bit peeved but wouldnt bother mentioning it.

Wouldnt worry about it - whats the bloke going to do?

You should show consideration to your neighbours when you get building work done. I think you should have either cleaned the neighbours car yourself or paid to get it valeted.:)

Conversely I disagree and think your neighbour should get a life. We all need to get things done now and then and you can't pick up your house and move it so we have accept a bit of inconvenience once in a while. As its obviously just a one off (it would be different if you were a building site for weeks on end) but come on! I suppose they are phoning lawyers4you and going to sue you for £50,000 for emotional distress next.

Paying for a valet is going too far but for the sake of good neighbourlyness (is that a word?) then I'd offer to wash the car myself (or get one of my kids to do it if I had any) or give them a few quid to take it to the car wash.

Yeah! Right. My car gets cleaned every Boxing Day, whether it needs it or not. I am damn sure that I would not be cleaning a neighbours car just because it got a bit dusty. Some people need to get themselves a life.

Our neighbours have just had their garden landscaped and we have had a lot of dust on cars and in the house, we just accepted that you can't do a job like that without causing dust and mess. We have had dusty jobs done in the past and you have to hope that your neighbours are equally accepting of inevitable dust.

I don't see what you're taken aback with? :) Surely it makes more sense for him to not park there again for the time being if the car is going to get mucky again?

As for what he hoped to achieve...don't you think he's just being careful and covering all aspects in case his car is found to be damaged? Perhaps he thought there was grit or chippings of some sort rather than just dust and he was concerned about paintwork damage so took photos so he could keep a record. He's probably cleaned his car and realised all is ok and has now just decided to keep it out of the way whilst the work is going on.

I think he was a bit OTT complaining about just dust but maybe he was genuinely worried there would be a bigger problem? Either that or he is just a 'Victor' but I was trying to see both sides and was giving him the benefit of the doubt. :D

If the operations of your contractor are causing a nuisance then he needs to take it up with them.

Ideally they should have some kind of collection system on power tools but this is unlikely.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
