Recommendations for a Mp3 player for 8-year-old.

Hi there,
It's my son's 8th birthday next week, and he's asked for an mp3 player.
I've got a budget of around £40 or so (which rules out iPods), but I'd like something reasonably decent that sounds OK and isn't too complicated for an (admittedly pretty tech-savvy) eight year old.
I was thinking about the Sansa Clip. Anyone any better ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Hey, that's cool. Do you know if it's any good?0

I have no personal experience of that particular device, but I do have a similar "cheap chinese player/recorder" here that works quite well considering it cost £40 new, which was a good 4 years ago.NickMidgley wrote: »Hey, that's cool. Do you know if it's any good?
I'll guess that with a 2.2" TFT screen the resolution is going to be 320 x 240 at best, but that is pretty much the same resolution as most mid range mobile phones and easily viewable IMO.
As it's only £23, you can use the balance to buy him another 2GB SD card to jack the memory up to 4GB

Did he ask for an iPod or any mp3 player?
What is wrong with an iPod? I have brought many, it's only money..0 -

He/She only has budget of £400 -
In an ideal world he'd like an iPod touch, but the budget just won't stretch. If he can prove that he'll use & look after it then maybe next year...
Besides, he's too young to become Steve Jobs's beeyatch/personal cashpoint just yet. But that's a whole different debate.

I'd just like to throw an additional into the mixture... have you considered looking at 2nd hand ipods, some are still in as new condition or posting on a Freagle group. You wouldn't believe the stuff I see people want / give on the groups in my area.
Anyhoo, I bought a Sony MP3 player (it's a 4GB USB SSD), does the job. Although the end cap is very loose and pretty bad imo. Other than that it's great, it charges by USB so in about 5 mins you have a fully charged pen again.Owner of andrewhope.co.uk, hate cars and love them
