  • One is what it says it is, a flat.

The other is an American word for the same thing, used to imply that it's somehow pseudo-superior (and definitely over-priced) compared to a flat.

Double the price and call it a 'condo'.

One of those may sell fast up there.

As a potential buyer with a stack of cash in the bank, I can categorically tell you the asking price is the problem. You may want to believe that your FLAT is worth £105k but I don't, certainly not in middlesborough. The market will start moving again when sellers start to understand that they do not have an instant right to get what they want for thier home, unless they are prepared/able to wait for inflation to bring its value up to that level. I'm happy to sit with my worth in savings until that day. With movable assets I can up and off when TSHTF, unlike greedy sellers, whose asset is planted to the ground.

DUPLEX - a two-unit apartment building or condominium

CONDO - A condominium, or condo, is the form of housing tenure and other real property where a specified part of a piece of real estate (usually of an apartment house) is individually owned while use of and access to common facilities in the piece such as hallways, heating system, elevators, exterior areas is executed under legal rights associated with the individual ownership and controlled by the association of owners that jointly represent ownership of the whole piece. Colloquially, the term is often used to refer to the unit itself in place of the word "apartment". A condominium may be simply defined as an "apartment" that the resident "owns" as opposed to rents.

I put my Apartment on the market 3 months ago at £109950 and have recently dropped the price to £104950. Am I being unfair and expecting some viewings after only 3 months?
I bought the apartment from new at £130000 5 years ago and luckily I had a large deposit to put down at the time. I currently have a mortgage of around £85000. I dont want to drop the price much further as I want to use some of the equity to put into a new place. I have attached a link to the property and would appreciate some feedback, I am not overly happy with the photos that the estate agent took but appreciate how hard it is to actually get photos that show what the property really looks like.

    Thanks in advance

    You can sell your flat.

It will sell as soon as you have reduced the price to a level that is acceptable in the current market.

Maybe some of their words don't sit right with us, but they've also added some flavour with interesting words, some of which are adopted in the UK.
Americans are pretty good at adding words to the English language. We owe them pin-up girls, highbrows, killjoys, stooges, hobos, drop-outs, shills, bobby-soxers, hijackers, do-gooders and hitchhikers who thumb a ride.

The Americanisms are so much more concise and vivid. Instead of saying "sorry we're late but drivers ahead of us slowed us down when they craned their necks to look at a crash" you can say "we were held up by rubberneckers".

Good luck. Sadly the property ladder is rotten and broken, but you may be in a better position than many other owners with similar newbuild style flats in your area. Middlesbrough though I suspect makes it an even tougher sell. You may still have options but in order to sell in the market of today and foreseeable future I think you'll have to take more of a hit and lower your asking price.
