hi , i bought an ikea bed last week which is why this thread caught my attention , but the difference is i bought the bed and then thought i would go out and get a mattress for it , i then found i had to go back to ikea to buy a mattress as no one else sells them ( or rather sells them as cheap) , i can quite understand how you came unstuck .

Most independent manufacturers can supply continental sizes, you just have to ask.

They won't all be as cheap as Ikea, but most of those that are more expensive will be far better quality.

The reason why many manufacturers make continental sizes is because there are so many people who are unsatisfied with their Ikea mattresses, that they want a UK made replacement.
  • I've just remembered who you are and that you're very young and inexperienced, so I apologise if my replies were a bit brusque, even if factually correct. However, you do always have to check bed measurements, even if not buying from IKEA.

also 'continental sizes' which continent ? i now live in france and the sizes are still not ikea sizes.
and does king size really mean anything? is there a standard size king? or queen for that matter
your best bet would be to stick it in the car , take it back to ikea and collect your refund , then look around for a kingsize bed frame and headboard etc second hand , maybe end up saving money , good luck

Cheers. nice to find someone who has real experience of my situation as opposed to certain other know-it-alls who seem to get off on volleying abuse at new posters.

In Australia we have double, queen and king sizes, so I can understand that it's difficult to know exactly what you are looking at without knowing all the sizes off by heart. I can never remember which is which, and have often come home with wrong sized bedding or sheets!

To make it more difficult, an Australian Queen is a UK King, and an Australian King doesn't seem to have an equivalent here. Maybe a super king??

Anyway, I think the error is understandable, but just a bit unfortunate. Not really IKEA's fault, but I sympathise with your annoyance!

kmmr, links in signatures are not allowed. It would be best to remove it so as not to inconvenience the MSE Team. ;)
    Gone ... or have I?
