Ikea bed problem - advice needed

Hi all
i bought a 'King Size' bed from Ikea last week and didn't realise until today that the mattress I had already bought from a local retailer is 10cm narrower than the Ikea bed frame. Seems Ikea's 'King Size' is different to the UK 'King Size'.
Now this is where the fun starts. I paid Ikea £87 to deliver the bed for me as I purchased from their Southampton store and I live just outside Brighton, the flat pack wouldn't fit in the back of my car.
I have called Ikea to complain about the bed size and request that they collect the bed and provide me with a refund. They have said they are happy to offer a refund but I will have to take the bed back myself. I am really not very happy as 1) if i hadn't bought the bed i could have got the rest of the items putchase in my car thus wouldn't have needed to shell out for delivery and 2) its going to cost me £30 to drive back to Southampton either with the bed on a roof rack or in a begged/borrowed van from somewhere.
Do i have any rights request them to collect this item from me given that I don;t think they stated clearly enough that there bed sizes are different from standard sizes? I have mentioned trading standards when on the phone to their customer services department but they guy just said "we are a massive company and work very closely with trading standards".
Please help.

Did Ikea not state the size of the bed?
Did you not measure your mattress before buying a bed to suit?
Are you sure the mattress you have is a "UK standard size"?
Really I think you have to take some responsibility for buying a bed of unsuitable size, don't you?
We don't know how much you paid for it, but perhaps you could sell it locally?0 -
It's well known that IKEA's beds are continental and not UK sizes and these sizes are very well marked. You haven't got a leg to stand on.0

If you go into any bed retailer a king size mattress will measure 150cm width wise. Ikea beds measure 160cm. The fact that they advertise this as King Size i therefore feel is incorrect.0

Surely anyway, if you are buying product A to fit product B from different places, you measure them both?????

It's well known is it? Well i didn't know it. And it wasn't stated anywhere on the shop floor, on the website or on my receipt. Doesn't make it very "well known" in my books.0 -

It doesn't matter, the fact is the sizes are differant and it is your responsibility to make sure they fit, it is no differant to clothes size where they both say the same size but there is a differanceThe Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

All Ikea display products detail the relevant dimensions. I can only assume you did not read this before buying.Gone ... or have I?0 -
A quick look on the IKEA website shows that they quote the frame size, length and height of each of their beds.
I think that it is very clear personally2014 Target;

And to add to Mountainofdebt's post...
I cannot find any described as King Size on their website.
But I may be wrong... I have not looked at every bed description in detail.
OP, which bed did you buy?
P.s. why did you go to Southampton? Croydon IKEA is nearer to Brighton.0 -

I've just remembered who you are and that you're very young and inexperienced, so I apologise if my replies were a bit brusque, even if factually correct. However, you do always have to check bed measurements, even if not buying from IKEA.0
