Wet rooms can be upstairs. We install them all the time for our tenants (local council). As you are in the private sector you can apply for a DFG (Disabled Facilites Grant) but it is means tested so it might mean you have to contribute to it or pay for it all, depending on your savings and outgoings etc. Usually there is a home improvement agency attached to the council who will take on the job of finding builders and getting the financial information etc to save you doing it and they charge a small fee for doing it. It takes the hassle out of it for you.

Even if you wanted to self fund (and not apply for the grant) the home improvement agency should still be able to help you. Your local one appears to be Blackpool Care and Repair (01253 651555).

Well done with the walking Taxi - breaking it into bite sized chunks is definitely the way to go - as time goes on you'll be able to increase times and distances, and vary your speeds etc as well. :T Wet room also sounds like a fantastic plan - fingers crossed you can stretch to it.

I'll see how I get on over the next few months before making my mind up as it'll cost a fortune .

You might be entitled to help with equipement etc that you need, when I first had the accesories - (had bed raiser, chair raisers, raised toilet seat, seat for the bath) I had them loaned from NHS, the request for those went thought the physio and the health visitor.

For mum, she's had chairlift, put in, there doing the bathroom next, taking out bath, putting in easy accesss shower and moving it all around, there also looking at putting a toilet and (if were lucky a wet room downtairs), the only spare place we have is the shed, but there sending a builder out to look into one. That went via referral from occupational thearpist - think it may have been the GP or dart clinic (falls clinic) - put the ball into motion, were working now between the occupational thearapist and the social services.
I don't know if your council or health authority has a similar place, but ours have a building and part of that has been designed as a house and you do a self referral, and the go through the equipment that you need, I had a bed rail, its loaned to you, may be worth asking.

Got to say thank you took a leaf out of your book, did the census on-line, lot easier xx
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx

Thanks for the info ...looking around a lot of stuff is available if you get DLA and rightly so but doesn't seem to be available if you're not on it.
Think I will ask my DR what he can suggest as if I need to get equipment I want to get the correct stuff.I've looked through some aids brochures but really don't have a clue which stuff is right to buy...as I say main thing is getting in and out of bath.

Hi taxi, from my experience, a lot of stuff IS NOT avail if you are on DLA. I'm on DLA and that has enabled me to qualify for Motorbility for which Im eternally grateful but otherwise I am ongoing told that its only if Im on Incapacity that I can have x,y or z help but as you would know from my diary I an endeavouring to stay working my business and I refuse to give that up to qualify for a benefit which would give me the support that I ironically would love to have now find working less tiring so I fail to qualify for any help. Would you qualify for Incapacity Benefit or DLA though? Your local disabled association would help you apply. For me, when I started needing physio, it was the physiotherapist who put my case in touch with Social Services. They came round and fitted rails here at home, one to help me get in and out of the bath as like you I have difficulties, the other rails are outside my front door to help me stay balanced going up and down a step. I wasn't asked to provide evidence of income for those. My stairlift on the other hand was going to cost me £2500 unless I was on Incapacity Benefit and it was a local charity in the end who offered to pay for it. Thats why I would suggest if after your enquiries it looks like you will have to fund many adjustments yourself, it might be prudent to ask your local Cancer or Disability charity for they may be able to help with funding or providing second hand items that pass the Health and Safety test but are not so expensive. I will let you know the outcome from my enquiries via the charity Disabled Parents Network because the lady who came out to see me is looking into Voluntary Organisations aswell as Social Services to push for more help for me as I am not on Incapacity and clearly that info could be helpful for you too. Best Wishes Taxi.

Thanks PAF...don't know whether I'd qualify for DLA as my I'm hoping my condition improves greatly as I get stronger.Obviously osteo arthritis never goes awaybut maybe losing the weight will help greatly.
Have spent all day very tired and in pain due to the walking I did...need to get the balance right.

Think I've solved my bathing dilemma..just bought through Quidco from Lloyds pharmacy a bath lift with compressor with the carry bag for £349 IN THE SALE...VAT FREE...6% cashback..hoprfully it will track.
It was really good value as a very similar one in another disability catalogue was £599 Vat free.

I don't know how to do links but if you go on LLOYDS website and click on betterlife icon...then go into sales bit ..it's the blue blow up one..looks a bit like a blow up chair...lol...it also packs up into a bag so that it's easy to take away.So here's hoping it's good.
