I know what you mean Bob -
who'd have thought Z would ever be guilty of raising the tone of a thread;)
It's shocking when the goods come up... oh no, I was planning to stuff any spare cash in an ISA which I believe are exempt from the 'income' bracket of entitlement to Tax Credits - that's the only benefit I get & it's based on my income which an ISA isnt. I think ...
Shall stuff my mattress instead then
I'm not sure I need to know what you're going around stuffing...
I was going to answer this, but Taxi came up with the goods. More upwardly mobile goods... :eek:Lula you are totally correct on the ISA regarding tax credits.
If you needed to go on Income support, housing benefit, council tax benefit then your capital savings are taken into account thus reducing your entitlement to benefit.
Take for instance ESA...the new contribution based sickness benefit that replaced incapacity benefit at this moment in time it is irrelevant what savings you have you still get it...so my savings are ok.
Come 2013/2014...this all changes...even though I've paid my contributions I wouldn't get it because of savings.
So as z says damned if you do damned if you don't
The form also states (IIRC) you have to declare any collections of any value, as well as any cash lurking. Though does not state what constitutes a collection.
Having something that isn't a collection, but retains its value well is probably a loophole.
The capital limit was round about £16,000 the last time I looked, but best to look for yourself."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

Wow...my thread has got all grown up and serious.....lol
Serious? Us? Naah, you must be thinking of someone else...You are a very clever man ZTD...
Not at all, I just know a lot of rubbish.I wish my brain would work properly.I'm of the same opinion as Lula in that things will get really tough..the cost of everything is rising and there have been wage freezes in a lot of places but people can only stretch their money so far.More businesses will shut down meaning less money to the government in taxes and more job losses. The government will be paying out more dole money.
Well, lets hope all the various governments of the world don't take the traditional way out to distract from their failings: War.
When we start blaming "foreigners" - then start to worry.I also think that people are spending now but come january things will seriously start to slide.
I don't know about that, this time. I just have the feeling the Government will paper over the cracks, until things burst open, rather than decline."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

Karma...it does boggle the mind but is very interesting especially when MPS were questioned about the national debt and didn't know the difference between deficit and debt total. They actually thought the deficit amount was the debt total...what hope have we when they don't understand it...lol
I think this is quite germane to the discussion.
