I've also got the Dyson animal ball and also recommend it, it even works on laminate which we have downstairs.
What I do with stairs is use a damp cloth to scoop the hairs up which works for me.
I have just bought a furmninator after reading the reviews on here as well as friend recommending it to me. Moulting season is coming and I am dreading it, I hoover every morning but then have to sweep another 2 times each day thanks to my lab/collie cross and cat grrr, so I really hope this comb saves me time and effort!
