Removing cat hair from the carpet

Hi for the carpets we have a bissell lift off hoover and it is fabulous. Being a cleaner part time i can tell you i have used loads of hooversand none come close. I personally hate Dysons, and really think henrys are rubbish! I cleaned a holiday home yesterday for my friend with a henry and found it hopeless..everything stuck to the floors and i kow mine would have gone over it in seconds..guess what im taking next time i go!
As for hair removal we too have a furminator, they are great..got ours cheaper in TKMaxx and so glad we go it. Funnily enough i have just done one of our cats and its taken loads off him!!0 -
I have a dyson animal too - but does anyone else find it smells kind of 'doggy' or musty after lots of use? I've never managed to totally get rid of the smell even after attempting to clean it all out - any tips other dyson users have would be fab0

Clean or replace the filters, that should do it.
Some models have filters where you don`t expect them

Another vote for the Dyson from me - I've never had any problems with it, though the tip about a damp cloth works really well to.0

I recently purchased a Furminator too and its fantastic for my dog, cats and rabbits. Just to let you know that I got it really cheap from Amazon.0

I’ve recently adopted a young cat and, despite growing up in a house with pets, I had forgotten all about the problems with hair – it’s taking a while to adjust to!
Our cat is long haired and although I wouldn’t say she moults a lot, the hairs seem to get everywhere (including places the cat never even goes). Carpets don’t look too bad unless you try pulling the hairs out, in which case you can usually fill a bin with ease.
I’ve actually found hoovering to be pretty ineffective, although this is partly because our hoover (an LG hand-me-down) is rubbish. My best tip is lint rollers, which are great for a quick fix, especially on clothes. The downside is that you can go through them very quickly and they can be costly to keep a supply of. An alternative is a roll of parcel/gaffer tape wrapped round your hand. As to carpets, I discovered by accident that the setting on the vacuum head designed for wooden floors and smooth surfaces is mean at dragging out hairs. It is basically a long line of short, hard bristles. My routine is now usually a thorough going over with the brush head, then a hoover, and (if necessary) a quick go with the lint roller to pick up any stragglers.
I also use a comb regularly, which the cat loves, and it pulls out quite a lot of hairs. I think I will invest in a furminator, when I see one at the right price, for a more thorough session maybe once a week. I feel it may also be time for a proper hoover, as this seems to make all the difference – I think the key here is the accessories. I used my mum’s Dyson Baby Animal recently, and it comes with various heads, featuring the kind of short bristles mentioned above. From what I’ve read the most popular seem to be the Dyson (Animal), although it has its haters, and the Miele (Cat and Dog). I may also look at the Bissell range as it’s considerably cheaper!0 -
I use a nail brush damped down with dilute fabric freshener on my stairs which works a treat!MFW 2011 No. 161 £946.54/£2000 TargetApril 9/15

Put on shoes with a (clean) rubber sole and drag your foot across the carpet, it will collect all the fur together and you can pick/hoover it up easier.0

Just looking for a thread on best hoovers..interesting to read comments on here because you guys seem to really know what you're talking about :j..
I just got an electrolux vitesse pet lovers hoover (1800w) out of a skip (though they sell them at Mr. A) and even though I have no pets my house is pretty messy with tobacco etc and I tell you it works a dream. Yes it's very noisey and I wouldn't want to have to put it together (well I would but the last hoover I tried to 'fix' I broke) but looks really good. Because you have to put it together I figure you'll be able to take it apart when you need spares etc so should last...Everything is in the manual...this is about my 3rd or fourth hoover this year (about my 3rd in 3 weeks...first one from charity shop i dropped fixing it, 2nd one I still have -£20 morphy richards jazz from CC but has bags this is my 3rd) all because generally speaking 15 or 20 pound bagless jobbies are more hassle than they're worth
All the reviews (all the rational ones) on the Mr. A site about the electrolux are true..basically noisey, not fab if you not want to put it together, but works a dream...
But this is a really good discussion so thankyou:j
