Removing cat hair from the carpet

Hi there,
My cat is adorable in every way EXCEPT he seems to moult non-stop! Unfortunately, we have a dark brown carpet which shows up his pale fur really badly. It's driving me mad - looks awful!
We're got a 'Henry' hoover which are meant to be pretty powerful, but the fur seems to get ingrained into the carpet, and won't vacuum.
Any ideas?
I did see a pet hair "magnet" in the pet shop (http://www.petsathome.com/shop/pet-hair-magnet-by-petmate-15450), but without knowing if it'll really work, I'm reluctant to spend £10.
Thanks,
BB

Damp rubber (washing up) glove works like a charm.
Hoover wise - I have Dyson Animal ball - brilliant for getting all the cat/dog fur (i have 6) off carpets and upholstery.0 -

Agree with the Dyson, best hoover I've ever had.
For a quick de-fuzz between hoovering I dampen the soles of my crocs (well fake crocs :money:) and drag my feet over the carpet - all the hair rolls into little clumps and it's really easy to pick up then. Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!0 -
I have a rug which is a nightmare when my cat moults, i`ve currently got 2 dogs and a cat all moulting at once
I used a dog stripping comb on the rug which is now fine although it did take a while, i`ve also used dry rubber gloves on my hands and rubbed them over the rug, the best thing that i`ve found is a furminator. Its a kind of brush which is supposed to stop shedding up to 80%.
I read about these ages ago and baulked at the price but now that the price has come down i recently bought one on ebay. I`ve got to say that i wish i`d saved myself a lot of hard work and bought one ages ago. I`ve not hoovered for two days which is unheard of in this house.
It combs out the lower layers of fur which is shed and leaves the topcoat mostly alone, both dogs and the cat love it.

SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon0 -
Anything rubbery will do it - I have a rubber brush that I do my rug with. It would be pretty hard work on a whole carpet though!0

I have a dyson animal it sorts my carpet out no probs
but I too after reading the posts on here bought a furminator, it is brilliant, I've used it on my dog, cat and bunnies and my hoovering has halvedA heap big thank you to everyone who posts the comps, your all stars!
Proud to of never used or felt the need to use a chain of any sorts on a puppy0 -

Good luck! I have the same problem with Daisy..I end up putting on a pair of shoes & dragging fy foot backwards over the rug to pull up the fur..but that's not practicle with carpets..
Maybe a shave?...oh Daisyyyy......:rotfl:
(only kidding..it's me that needs the shave!)0 -
I got a pet magnet yesterday - it was a fiver in a local pet/garden store. Ive just used it on my stairs which I find the hardest for getting the hairs off and so far, so good - just looked at your link - mine is just a block without the handle thing. I also have a furminator to brush them outside daily.0

I use a rubber broom inbetween hoovering.0

As others Dyson animal. Sorts out lots of cat hair and My retriever who's moulting for the world at the moment.0

The pet hair magnets are great but would be backbreaking for a whole carpet. Have you got any shops like poundstretcher or B&M near you? They often have rubber brooms in stock that pick up hair really well and as they have a long broom handle you don't have to get on your hands and knees to scrub. If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0
