Auriga Crown Car Hire

We prepaid for our carhire, but had to pay a deposit of £350.
Ive just checked my bank account and I am shocked to see that the deposit has cost me approx £40!!
£8.50 commission for each transaction, ie debit and credited back. Also the refund was £20 less, due to currency buy back rates, I presume.
Not sure who makes the charges, the bank or the car hire company, but beware, what appears to be a cheaper rate for your car hire, can be a lot dearer than some others who only take a 1p deposit from your account.
The car hire only cost £126!! so £40 is imo scandalous!:mad:
What a waste of money! Id be happier to pay a cash deposit and receive the same cash back!!

It is very strange to pre-pay for a car hire so maybe Auriga Crown are changing policy. Sorry to here of the charges-not nice. We have used Auriga crown and they use to be very good. There was a problem with morning flights that they were always busy and it is very hot in the airport. We don't use anyone at the moment but we were always happy with malagacar.com who do not charge until you arrive.0

The villa owner suggested malagacar.com too. We booked thru doyouknowspain.ACII and Chartered so now I can focus on learning to play my beautiful Sax. 🎷0

Are you sure you are correct ????
Auriga Crown & most other car hire companies in Spain only 'pre book' the amount of the deposit they dont usually actually take it.
From their website conditions....
Deposit
All Renters are required to place a deposit in the form of a recognized credit card authorization. This deposit is based on the sum of the tank of petrol and the CDW/TP excess amounts.
They never take cash......
I also think you have been conned into paying in GBP & not Euro....0 -

Yes I am definately sure. I prepaid through a broker called doyouspain.com.
I bought extra ins elsewhere as I was duped last year!! (Solmar),
so I only had to pay for petrol, but as the hire was not for long they said if we brought the car back with a full tank they would refund the amount. They took atotal of 350 euros and credited 350 euros back, but each transaction was £8.50 and the conversion cost approx £20 + the initial commission charge for the carhire!!
I would like to ask for your help, if they do not usually take the cash, who should I speak to?
We have used Auriga before and were very happy with them, but the extra charges were a shock tbh!

Hi,
Nobody can help you now as you have had the car hire and your point is about the charges for the deposit. It is not the fault of Auriga Crown as they have done nothing wrong? You booked the car with I presume a UK credit card and so they take the amount in Euros which is their currency. So your credit card-or bank- have made these charges.
You could speak to your bank about the 8.50 charges x 2 and they may refund this but the exchange rate may not be recoverable.
For future bookings try malagacar.com as the deposit you gave Auriga Crown was for the excess and Malaga Car do not have an excess. However in these tough times company policies are changing so read the small print. Plus with malagacar you do not pre-pay, you book online, they give you a voucher and you pay on arrival with a credit card.0 -
we were given an unroadworthy car by Malagacar. We had a puncture and couldn't get the nuts off the wheel so took it to a garage which was luckily just next door and when they took the wheel off to change the tyre realised there was next to no brake pad left. the garage refused to let us drive the car away. malagacar sent a taxi to collect us and gave us another car but refused to accept the car was not suitable to be given to anybody else before they replaced the brake pad. we said we'd wondered why the brakes were so squeaky but they said all Meganes were designed to have squeaky brakes! the light came on for low oil and the windscreen wipers were totally useless. we at first refused to pay for the puncture because the garage pointed out that there were at least 3 or 4 areas of the tyre which were badly damaged and said it was an accident waiting to happen and i said they were lucky we weren't all dead as the car was unroadworthy but they refused to give us another car until we paid up. I would say that on the 3 occasions we visited their offices during our stay there were more people complaining and returning cars than there were collecting them.0

As I said above Auriga Crown should NOT have actually taken the deposit from your card.
They should have just PRE BOOKED it.
Take it up with both Doyouspain & Auriga Crown you should be entitled to a refund of the charges.
Look at Auriga's T & C that I copied from their website.0
