You really are just making it worse for yourself. let it go.

You also appear to be ignoring the point about registering as a business. You have probably been reported countless times already and are running a real risk by not upgrading.

I do not consider myself a business seller

    Tough. You are.

You are taking advantage of ebay's policy which is intended for people to have a occasional clearout, not to spam (duplicate listings anyone?) and run a undeclared business.

I somehow doubt you are putting this on a tax return either, but you should.

    No sympathy, sorry.
We're all responsible for what we sell and how we sell it, and if a buyer sees that the item they bought as a talked up item is actually a freebie, well they're not going to be happy are they.

Yes it was harsh, but that's the name of the game.
One negative won't hurt unless your buyers also would have been annoyed about buying a free item. In which case you are misleading them.
This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine

I am a professional ebay seller. I work hard at my job, I love my job, if you think it's silly that's your problem not mine. :p

I am with soolin on this one. I think you have done more harm than good with your posts on here. This and other forua (forum) are littered with people who will report you at the drop of a hat.

You may not consider yourself a business but under Ebay rules you are. HMRC will also consider you a business, they have a free 'snitch line' for phone and internet use, I can imagine you have been reported on there too.

As I said to you before, I feel gutted for you that this can have this much of an effect. You really do need to realise that the negative is not the problem.

I just imagine half the users on here sneaking round the ticket offices next time they go into London :rotfl:

Although seriously, it has given me the inkling of an idea in a similair sort of area........

    Hi everyone

just wanted to clarify a couple of things here,

smiley-rolleyes008.gif !!!!!! sake let it lie your making it far worse for yourself and starting to make yourself look more ridiculous than you did in your original messages to the buyer (if thats possible).

Register as a business keep your head down and take this as a lesson in customer relations.

aionas, I think you should stop digging. Few are listening to what you're actually saying. You have said more than once (as did a few posters on the buyers thread) that these maps are NOT available as free giveaways everywhere as the buyer had led us to believe in her thread. I see that some posters still believe that misinformation and are using it as a stick to beat you with, regardless of the facts.

There seems to be a bit of a pack mentality in many of the posters on MSE and once they decide you are wrong, the little digs and threats to report you to the authorities start. There is no stigma in being a grass on this site, in fact it's considered to be something to be proud of for some reason. Possibly the anonymity makes it a more attractive proposition than in real life.

Most of them were against the buyer in her thread and now they're against you in your thread. That's (internet) life.

Did you actually read this thread or the Original? What people have said all along is that the buyer was over the top with the neg. But the seller was being ridiculous with threatening court action and could have eased the situation with some basic customer service. So no one was jumping sides all along people have stated that both sides have handled the situation poorly.

Only one or two posters actually gave a fig if the maps are available free or not. The past few posts the Seller has just continued to justify her original silly threats and has just made matters worse.

You may think it's pack mentality but if you read the majority of the posts properly most of it is common sense. Pointing out where the sellers silly email could have caused the problem and the pointlessness of keeping trying to justify themselves as all they were possibly doing was making it worse for themselves.

    even you yourself stated
I thought your email came across as a bit mad. Threatening court action etc just because of an ebay neg. .

And yes I will quite happily report business sellers who aren't registered both to the HMRC and ebay. I personally pay my taxes so I don't see why others shouldn't. As for ebay if people are not registered and take advantage of the free listings ebay gets less money so there fees rise. That directly effects me so yes I happily report those I come across.

Aionas - if you are using this as a way of feeding your family, such is what everyone else does with their own businesses - you shouldn't be doing this if you don't play the game like the rest of us have to or would have to do.

I gave up selling loads because it was getting to the point where I would have needed to register. I'm on sick benefit while I climb slowly out of depression, I'm doing a lot to try and make myself employable after that illness, and I resent other people creaming off money and not paying tax on what they earn. I don't buy excuses like "I'm disabled" or "I have a family and I'm a single mum" - because I would have to register myself if I was trying to support myself like that too, and I've been as close to disabled as I am likely to come. What you're doing is unfair to the rest of us who wouldn't trade a regular but small income for the uncertainty of something like the business I was interested in going into - selling postcards and stamps which is much harder now after the credit crunch than when I sold my old and relatively extensive collection on eBay as individual items in 2006. I did think about it but reckoned I wouldn't get a good enough return to pay my bills and had to drop what was a good way of earning extra cash once I sold off everything that I was prepared to sell off or that was selling in the months after the bank bailout.

Unlike Cyberbob, who is entitled to his own opinion, I do give a fig about something that ought to be free being distributed for pure profit. If I got angry at people for being cross with the buyer for getting upset with the seller over the nature of the maps (whew!) I'm sorry, but we only really had the buyer's word for it. If these maps are sold elsewhere then the publisher is evidently OK with distributing them for profit, and you may well have got them through normal distribution channels, but I'd like to reiterate if these maps are financed by public money and given away free they are NOT to be harvested for your own personal profit. I stand by what I said on that thread as it really makes me cross the way some people behave with things that ought to be free and don't own the distribution rights to. It's not fair on people who make an honest living out of producing and financing these maps. There are a lot of good business opportunities out there, but skimming off taxpayers in two ways isn't fair or honest.

OP, register as a business and take the feedback on the chin. You won't get it removed now. One neg or neutral won't affect you too much, anyway. You raising your profile by posting about this on here, and with it the profile of your line of business, will have a knock-on effect, however. Time to bite the bullet and let go.
