Up until yesterday my internet was working fine now its having a permanent sleep and I'm not sure if its something Ive pressed by mistake as I'm not the brightest where computer stuffs concerned.
When i go into google and put a website in it finds it no problem, when I click on the website it then goes into a major strop the screen goes blank and at the bottom left hand corner it says 'waiting fot http//....and whichever website' - I then wait and wait ans wait and the only think that happens is a little circle keeps going round in the middle of the screen.
Please can someone give me some advice.
Thanks in advance

first thing to do is to log into your router and post your line stats....advice how-to here:-

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple

a quick test is to "ping" a couple of sites, this will tell you if your net is working and if the problems with the browser or your router.
press the windows key and R
a little box should show up saying run with a box for you to type in
type inping bbc.co.uk
then press enter
if all is well a black screen will show saying pinging bbc.co.uk [numbers] blah blah
then followed by 4 responses saying either response from bbc.co.uk or something that resembles a failure
you can ping most sites
bbc
google for example
but try some of the other sites that you know dont load
just an example

Thanks Bob. I've pinged a few and it came up with the 4 lines like you said there was something else underneath but it flashes off that quickly that I can't read it. I can get on some sites, like this & my online banking for example, without any hassle but its seems to be anything that has loads of pictures to download like Next and BBC Sport etc2013 - Finally got the house we' ve worked so hard to get......now it's a life of diy and no money....couldn't be happier 😊

well your net is working... problem is what is causing the problems... something wrong with the provider... or your browser...
which browser are you using atm?
if your using IE can you try firefox... or vice versa...
If you havent got another browser could you try and download another one?
ive had problems like this before where the browser has a few niggles in it especially IE.0 -
It disappeared quickly because you didn't open a command window first.andrea1968 wrote: »Thanks Bob. Do again what Bob said earlier, but instead of typing the ping command, type cmd and press enter.
This will open a command prompt, then type in the ping command that Bob gave and the results will stay on screen.
The fact you can get some sites and not others would suggest a DNS issue to me. To prove this, navigate to the Next website using it's IP address (link below) rather than it's canononical name.
If the link below gets you there, it is a DNS issue.

the last line isnt really important, but if you want to see it then do the above.
it could be a DNS issue, but surely that would just be solved by restarting the router... after all DNS is supposed to automatically propogate... no user intervension required. or maybe thats just my understanding
it could also be just as likely to be the browser... IE has a really low immune system and picks up practically anything that goes around on the web lol0 -
Thanks for your suggestions, I'm using IE at the moment so I'll try firefox later - once my headache has worn off!!!!2013 - Finally got the house we' ve worked so hard to get......now it's a life of diy and no money....couldn't be happier 😊

The DNS servers are controlled by the ISP, restarting the router will not fix them if they are having routing issues.bob_man_uk wrote: »it could be a DNS issue, but surely that would just be solved by restarting the router...Remember kids, it's the volts that jolt and the mills that kill.0 -
ive heard that some routers store DNS data, to help differenciate between a local site (hosted on a pc inside the network) and an external site, just a thought...
surely it wouldnt hurt, trying the age old addage, "turn it all off and back on again" lol0
