Looking to know if anyone here would know about this.
Th organisation I work in is a local government org. I am in the IT dept and know that they pay a yearly fee to get MS products eg Office 2010, windows 7 etc...
I know for a fact that IT staff have been taking the products and using them external out of the org for thier own personal pc and family members is this against the law? Is this stealing?
Can anyone shed any light on this?

Employees may be allowed to take a copy and use it , if they need it for company use at home. Does not mean they can't use it for other things at same time.
They may also NOT be allowed too take a copy and use it at home even if for company use.(depends on licence)
If they are taking it home for personal use then its piracy and technical theft from company...but prove it lol
You going to dob them in ?? lol0 -
A lot of Microsoft product licences allow you to install the product on another PC to use away from the officeThe Daily Mail

Personal use may be a different issue however.
My company pays for me to have an MSDN subscription, but im not allowed to install any of it at work, its purely for use at home.
They need to be a privledged position to have access to volume licencing or the licences and media.
Subscriptions are also only licences to an individual (but a company can volume buy these)0 -

This is exatly what i am trying to say its an MSDN sub and the licence is only give to one person but there have been many people taking copies of s/w and product keys to install at home and other pc outside the org??0
