    JML :rotfl:

Oh stop it - I worship at the temple of JML :D

I think I have totally killed the screw now. the other one came out ok but now this one is not for moving at all. I have tried banging the hammer off it, drilling it to get a better grip, using the screw extractor every which way and the bloody thing still won't move. My letterbox is hanging funny now

What size is the screw that is stuck and if you are replacing the letterbox can't you just destroy it?

What do you mean destroy it? The letterbox is metal and I have tried to hack it off but it is not for moving at the left hand side. the right side is loose but I can even get something under it to try to wedge it off.

Check the size of the screws that you have already removed. Take a drill bit the same size and drill through the head, until it drops off.
If the screw is a crosshead you should have no trouble centering the drill bit, if not center punch the head before drilling.
You will then be able to remove the letter box and there may be enough of a thread stump to remove with molegrips.

Assuming I’m right and what you have is a screw, head on the inside and which passes through the door and screws into the metal letterbox then either…

Use a drill slightly bigger than the thread of the screw to remove the head, then you can pull the remaining threaded bit through the door,

The easier alternative (but taking care not to damage the door) is to grab the side of the letter box the screw has come out of and pull it away from the door thus ripping the screw out of the threads on the other side

The end result was that I drilled the screw yesterday, made a mess of that too so enlisted one of my neighbours to help. We eventually got the letterbox off the door but the screws supplied with the new one didn't fit so after a jaunt to B&Q to get a variety of different screws the new box has eventually gone on.

My £6.50 ebay bargain letterbox turned into a £25 and lots of swearing letterbox but it is finally on and now I need to paint the door again as it is a slightly different size. Thanks for all the tips.

I still love JML even though they have let me down this time.....

I counted that in the £25 - it cost about the same as the letterbox :rotfl: wonder which one will last longest? :rotfl:
