JML screw extractor

I am trying to change my letterbox and one of the screws is stuck and a bit broken so I bought a JML screw extractor but can't get it to work properly - clearly its the tool rather than the operator
The box says to do it slowly with minimal pressure but it is just wreaking the screw more. I have tried slowly with lots of pressure and it is doing the same. I have been using a hand screwdriver rather than an electric drill as it doesn't go slow enough.
What am I doing wrong?

If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!

Get a screwdriver & set it against the screw head & give it a sharp whack with a hammer, that should loosen it up enough to make extraction easier.
(old trick I learnt in the RAF)0 -
Mole grips0

The screw is inside the letterbox so I have lifted the letterplate, removed the brushes but it is still a few inches inside the letterbox so can't get into it.If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0 -
Long nose mole grips?
Otherwise drill the screw a bit to let the extractor get a better grip0 -
I find mole grips are useful only if the screw patrodes out a couple of mm you can then tighten the bar on it and then grip the screw and twist
I tried a similar tool for extracting screws from ebay which you drilled it but I couldnt get it to work either it just messed up the screw even more and mole grips wouldnt work much as they are only great for some screws that stick out0 -

It is still flush with the fitting so pliars wouldn't work. I looked at those clips before ordering the kit and it looks so flipping easy but in practice I am finding it doesn't grip it at all and just spins and chatters like with a normal screwdriver. I have tried more than one head on it and don't want to lose my faith in the cult of JML - I love 'em!
Next plan is to drill the screw...If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0 -
What size is the screw that is stuck and if you are replacing the letterbox can't you just destroy it?0

the screw may be rusted in?
in some instances, if the screw is flush, you take a drill and only drill off the head - only the head, not the shaft!
The item should now be able to slide over the shaft of the screw.
Once the item has been removed, there is a few mm of screw shaft protruding. Now use the mole grips on that shaft.
Another way is by using something called an impact driver.
Use stainless steel screws0 -
