I have one and it's a good phone. Most importantly but often overlooked, call quality is excellent, loud and clear. Better than a lot of smart phones i've used so far.
It's not a high end phone so comparisons to the iphone, htc or samsung's newer models are unfair. The touchscreen isn't as good and can take some getting used to as it can often be "clunky" but I haven't bothered doing the firmware update (had phone for 16 months), there aren't many apps available for it (though you can download quickoffice viewer for free) and the screen resolution compared to those high end phones isn't as good but i've sat on the train and watched a couple of 20min episodes a few times without too much strain. Camera is nothing special but IMO if you want a good camera then buy a camera.
Positives are the call quality as I mentioned, EXCELLENT battery life, especially if you turn the screen brightness down. Again, in that respect much better than any smart phone I've seen. All standard messaging options are there and easy to set up. Internet is ok but I used opera mini instead of the standard browser it comes with. Music player is excellent IMO and it comes with a 3.5mm headphone jack aswell as a TV-out which is quite nice. I've dropped the phone a couple of times and although it feels a little plasticky it's actually quite well built. I've had some water damage aswell but phone still works fine (probably crashes about once a month).
All in all, for a mid range phone it's pretty good. I'm not sure how much it's available for on contract nowadays but if it's <£15pm I think it's probably worth it. The HTC wildfire is a much better upmarket alternative though I'd say.0 -
I have the Nokia 5800 and I love it,I got it so I can use the internet on wifi when I am on buses etc and especially yesterday in a pub as I knew Ask Jeeves were talking to Russell Grant the astrologer and I Put a question in to him on my mobile and he kindly answered it for me as I found out when I got back to my pc.Its neat, easy to fit into my bag and I brought a neat phone case,I love the satnav part of it and the maps they are handy when traveling to a place I or Dad dont know well and I will be using the Satnav today as I am a party at a place my Dad and I dont know
I saved up my money last year for one after trying with pepsi with their promotion and gave up with them.I saved up a years contract so I am fine as I pay £18 a month with Virgin mobile,500 texts and unlimited web the offer is not on virgin now unfortunately but Dad found me the offer and I got it right awayI wouldnt be without my Nokia 5800.

I have a chance to buy a Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. The reviews for it seem very mixed , from " the best phone i have ever owned and as good as a Iphone " to " this phone its terrible , never again "
Whats the touch screen like to use ? , how easy is it to navigate , ? does the browser work well ? , easy to text ?
I have always wanted a touch screen and the sat-nav system is something i would like for free also which this phone does, but I have always used a keypad mobile !!
So if you have one or experianced one please can you pop your views on it here , before i part with my hard earned
Many thx
The trick with any reviews on the internet is to always ignore the very bad ones and very good ones and look at the "middling" ones. Personally, I always avoid anyone who does a review in txt spk, too.If I've helped you please show your appreciation by using the "Thanks" button

Thankyou everyone, great info there , i picked my new Nokia 5800 2 days ago , :j
Getting used to it still , ( touch screens are another world ) but so far so good ,
I was wondering though ,
Can you choose and lock the orientation ,ie stop it changing when you tilt the phone , , i want it, so the phone is locked into horizontal view !!
:beer:0 -
it appears you cant lock it to a landscape view,
but one thing i did find that the phone can do is
" remote phone locking"
This is where you setup your phone to lock itself after sendingit a text message with a code word that setup in it !!
I just setup mine and tested by sending a text to myself with the codeword and it locked out , you have to put the unlock code in that you setup eariler to unlock it ,
Very good idea if your phone gets nicked or lost, it also locks if the sim is removed ,0 -
Hi, I'm looking for a new Nokia 5800.
Where is the cheapest place to buy one ?
I don't really want second hand or Ebay and I don't like contracts.
thanks !0 -

I can't make up my mind for my new phone. I like this one and the HTC Desire. The reviews here for the 5800 are excellent. Has anyone had the Desire aswell?0
